I have been plodding along on this in the background the past few weeks and have some progress.

I have run all of the front brake pipes, fitted the master cylinders and bolted on most of the engines ancillaries.

I built up the front brakes, Installed the driveshafts and shockers

I have painted and fitted the bonnet

And refurbished the grille which was manky

That was then re-assembled and fitted to the car

I need to refurbish a grille like that! It looks brand new!

Also, he should totally fit twin carbs to this car. Just to complete the look.

It's a nice easy job and makes a lot of difference.

I know the owner has plans for an engine build involving a SA 1275 engine which he has already. This engine is only ever going to be a temporary fitment hence the decision not to paint it

Cheers

Ah, that is exciting too! If he was able to find a complete GTS motor (block, head and gearbox), that would be quite special (since it is pretty much what makes a GTS, a GTS).

Great work Ben, the grille looks like brand new, and the arches really suit the clubman especially with the chrome trim.

The bleed nipple should be at the top, surely?

I can't tell from the picture. The bleed nipples are on the back. Edit. You are right, they are wrong. The nipple isn't on the back..

I should go to specsavers

Cheers for that, ill get it sorted tomorrow

Cheers

I have refurbished the gear selector and fitted that now.

I also fitted up the passenger door

I finished up the bootlid

Including the pain to fit rubber seal

It's really getting there now

I've got the exhaust to fit, the interior to finish and a few underbonnet bits to sort and I think it's about there.

Then it will need a flat and polish and finish off the chrome sill/arch trim

Looks amazing. It would be really nice to see it finished with the decals.

Any tips on refurbishing the front grille please?

Yeah sure.

Split it into the 3 main parts, drill the rivets and remove the top bracket and remove the badge.

I scrub the whole thing with a grey scotchbrite wet with plain water. This removes all the crap and if you rub quite hard on any areas where the black paint is chipped it will rub it back nicely. The grey scotchbrite isn't too abrasive so leaves the silver parts with a nice sheen.

I then cleaned it all off, de-greased and carefully masked up the silver parts and then sprayed on about half a dozen light coats of matt black. I also cleaned the rust and flaky paint from the top bracket and primed that followed by a few coats of matt black also.

Once dry, i de-masked and reassembled with nice new rivets, black self tappers and black washers for the screws.

The wheels are only temporary. The owner has a set of GKN silverstone wheels to go on although i'm not 100% sure if they will be fitted before it leaves me.

The rib belongs to my boss. He needed somewhere warm and dry to so a small repair on it where it wouldn't be in the way so I offered my workshop. we ended up having to roll it forward into the booth so I could move the GT to get better access round it.

Space is very much a premium in my workshop :(

Cheers

Ben
