Yesterday I became the proud owner of my second ever Mk1 mini. He isn't feeling to well at the moment, if he were a human he'd be on a life support machine.
So to the details, he's a 1961 Mk1 with a 998 heart which needs some nurturing, this sits on top of a bog standard gearbox with remote gearstick. The gearbox will be having major surgery, complete strip and rebuild using close ratio straight cut gears, 1:1 straight cut drop gears, cross pin diff and central oil pick up.
His floor is gone beyond repair so will be replaced with a complete new floor, which will mean that the rear sub frame will be able to be reattached to the car as at present it's sitting on the floor about 10 feet away.
I'll endeavour to get some photos of this handsome boy up tomorrow. Looking forward to catching up with some old mates over the next few months as the project goes forward.

So been down the workshop for a bit today to give the car a bit of attention, took the bonnet and the drivers door off, front and rear screen out and cleaned out the inside so I could see what I'm dealing with. Took some photos of the old boy today, just got to remember how to upload them!

Apologise for the large amount of photo's but I seem to remember from before that everyone likes photo's

Thanks minimissions, I don't know which is the worst his one or the one I did before, but I do like a challenge and I was starting to get a bit bored.

Might be a good idea to switch to imgur for photos as photobucket is pretty awful and mobiles can't see the pictures...

Been and done a bit on the mini tonight. When I took out the rear screen there was some rot to the right hand bottom corner of the window opening and also to the rear parcel shelf on the same side.

So I cut out the rot then started fabricating some new metalwork and welding it in and grinding it down

Then I repaired the rear shelf

Still need to fettle the welds a bit, but pretty happy with a couple of hours work.

Back in the workshop tonight for another couple of hours, I've removed the radiator and hoses ready for the removal of the engine at the weekend. I've removed the passenger door and welded braces in place across both drivers and passenger doors, I've also welded some diagonal bracing through the interior to help stiffen the bodywork as there is a lot of rot in the floor and the front panels

Also i've removed both of the front wings to see what nasties are lurking in the dark

and now for the passenger side

I think I need to order some panels and a big bottle of gas for the welder, good thing I enjoy the welding part of things :mmkay:  :mmkay:

Im aiming to do a few hours each evening and as much time as possible at weekends so we'll see how it progresses. Ordered my steel this morning to make a carosel, did this last time and it made everything so much easier, just wish I hadn't scrapped the old one about 18 months ago. Hopefully get some pictures up later.

Taking it apart is the easy bit, its putting it all back together so that everything still fits that takes the time.

If you get it even a little bit to the standard as the last one, she'll be a beauty! 😎

You don't seem as though you're short of motivation but I like to totally re-furbish something smallish like a rocker cover then leave it where you can see it to encourage the rest of it!
