Best Answer minimans , 10 February 2018 - 09:40 PM

Jack it up with the frame in first and put it on jack stands on a length of plank under the floor at the rear of the body, drop frame down and remove.

My clubman estate failed its MOT yesterday, the only major point was the rear subframe. I thought Id try and replace it at home, but I cant work out how to jack the rear of the car up if the subframe isnt there.

The workshop manual says to lift the body with padded hooks under the wings, but I doubt many people actually do that, partly because youd need to own some sort of crane.

Otherwise, Id appreciate any tips on doing the job at home. Ill buy a torque wrench for refitting all the suspension components, but are there any other tools that would be useful?

Sound like a good idea, I’ll find a good fencepost or sleeper to put on a pair of jack stands. The floor is pretty solid so should be alright
