Hi, as part of my restoration Im putting the original 10 steel wheels back on in their original silver/ grey. Ive found the original code listed on minispares as GR36 Dark Sliver Metallic however the mixing information doesnt appear to be available and the paint company cant mix it. So does anybody know of a paint colour/ code that is a good match for the original grey/silver?

Many thanks
Elliott

Painted loads of these wheels back in the day, sorry don't remember the code nos

just wondered which paint supplier you tried!

I managed to find a local supplier to mix the older match for Damask Red after trying a couple of places,

if its any help, let me know if you need any more details.

Frank.

I tried Jawel paints, i have used them for other mixed colours and they have been spot on.

Minispares only list it as available in 'half hour lacquer'

Of course the standard colour could be another code? I read here on the forum that it was GR36 but that doesn't mean its correct.

No problem! being retired Body repairer I prefer to use local paint suppliers whom can sometimes

tweak colours to match, having over the years had Paint mixing schemes from various paint companies

ie ICI,Glasurit, RM, Lechlar! have done a fair amount of paint mixing & tweaking over the years.

What company have you used? I'm in West Yorkshire too so I might give them a try if I can't find a suitable replacement

Hi, I use a few different suppliers! buy most of my paint/materials from

Profix, Bradford Rd Batley, its just a small place next to Frankies heading

towards Dewsbury from Birstal situated in a car showroom, has grey door

and windows, it doesn't have sign outside!! hence the complicated description.

Cheers Frank.

The wheels were made and painted by Dunlop so the shade used can very. Late 1970's cars tended to have quite a bright shade of silver, dark silver was more a Mk 2/early Mk 3 colour.
