Back when I put my engine together I had similar problem. My calculated CR lead me to conclude I'd be OK with 95 octane fuel, the most common juice here in my habitat. However, real life shows it better likes a 98 octane, although from some pumps 95 is ok, but from some even 98 makes some overrun. Last Oct we did Latvia Italy - England road trip. Fuel consumption varied a great deal as well. Advice: learn your motor and live with it.

edit: my fuel consumption figures from said trip are found here https://www.spritmon...date=01.12.2017
