A 145 was originally used on the Mini with a 3.5" wide wheel. 4.5" is OK and 5" might be possible with a bit of a stretch.

Makes no difference what the wheel diameter is/was. It is the tyre width compared to the wheel width which we are talking about here.
A 145 section width is great on a light car like the Mini, but should not be fitted to a wheel wider than 4.5".
In fact, I have driven a 1275 MPI Cooper on 4.5" x 12 " standard wheels and 145/70 x 12 Falken tyres. It did not have the ultimate road-holding of a Yokohama, but the handling, especially in the wet, was superb and just like the early Mini Cooper 'S'.

Used to stretch to 5J for Cosmics but no more.A 145 was originally used on the Mini with a 3.5" wide wheel. 4.5" is OK and 5" might be possible with a bit of a stretch.
