Correct me I'm wrong, but surely it's in our best interests to not report ringers and keep them on the road?

why? they are being made up from a car that has been taken from someone illegally.
I would prefer to see all ringers crushed. all it does is promote crime. putting one back on the road is totally possible legally it just costs.

Ah, didn't realise they were stolen. I assumed it was to do with people reviving V5's from cars that don't exist anymore

i personally think what does it matter if i have an mpi and a old logbook and i want to put it on a tax exempt plate. im not actually doing any harm to anyone.
i totally agree with reporting V5/logbook only sales on ebay but trying to **** stir because someone has a later car on a tax exempt plate is just being a busy body.

such a crime, if you actually looked at every mini still on the road i think you would be shocked how many are not actually in there original shells.

and like i said there is a legal way to do that. putting a different ID onto a registered shell is a crime and can lead to the loss of the car and or a fine or a Q plate. you can of cause do a cherished plate transfer from one legal car to another as long as you are not trying to making look newer.

As long as both cars are on the road.
I suspect a lot are just made by dusting off old V5's sat in drawer bottoms. I wouldn't call that harmless though, even if you're not bothered about cheating road tax. It has the potential to queer the pitch for genuine historics. But mostly, if we ignore them then we're creating a market place where it's easy to shift stolen Minis and putting our own at greater risk of being stolen.
