I've also put an Aldon Amethyst TPS version (as I've got twin webbers) on mine.  It's a brilliant piece of kit!  Mines a fast road car/weekend warrior.

What spec engine are you running?  My brother runs an Aldon Red on his race Cooper S and his runs very nice.

The Aldon Yellow is suitable up to Kent 286 and from the Kent 296 upwards it should be an Aldon Red.

these are the specs of my engine:

1293cc A-plus block, line honed with 4 bolt main cap

turbo oil pump

high pressure oil valve

metro turbo CAM6581 crankshaft

light verto flywheel and ap racing plate

mini clubman gt short ratios in an a-plus gearbox with 4.66:1 final drive

slark racing cam gear drive

md296sp cam

1.5 roller rockers

mg metro sized rimflow valves

flat top omega pistons

dual hif44 su's

full 1.75 inch maniflow metro exhaust

12:1 mechanical compression

cylinderhead ported and done by myself

the power is 103bhp at 5900rpm and 124nm at 5600rpm

I would like to have 15-20 bhp more, but as its the first head I ever ported and I did it only from the vizard descriptions I am ok pleased with the result.

I need to buy a head done by a professional head porter at some point.

so what is it like with the other 2000 revs?

will be nowhere near max power at 6K

just found your posts on MetroPower.

you have engine issues. your valves should never leave witness marks on the pistons. and are most likely now bent.

changing gear at valve bounce and your power graphs showing a total drop off of power at 7k also suggest build issues

you should be able to rev an engine of that type of spec to 8-9K no need after 8 but some times it is better to hold the gear than change.

you don't need a turbo oil pump.

I would guess the head could be one issue and did you get the correct springs for them?

mine is a very similar spec and I get 125Bhp easy enough and 8-9k rpm if really needed. not much below 3.5-4k though.

yes I have been on metropower for years :)

the power graph you see is not the newest one, I haven't scanned the newest one in, but the peak rpm is about the same in this new build as in the old build. I lowered the mechanical compression for this season as I keept on blowing headgaskets at 13:1 in compression, so lowered it to 12:1 with a new engine block which cured that problem it seems.

the valve marks on the pistons are years old and was the result of a failed waterpump gasket during full power which quickly made everything seize up. All 8 valves were replaced.

I am using the C-AEA526 valve springs form minispares and I don't rev it to valve bound, I rev it to 7000-7300 rpm if needed as you say.

I agree that my home ported cylinderhead or perhaps my inlet and carb arrangement is limiting the power and making it drop off in power where it is dropping off.

the engine is working the best it ever has in this season, so I am quite happy with it right now, but would of course like the extra 20 bhp you have.

I am considering if this winters project should be to weld and paint the body which is needed or to have a new cylinderhead professionally ported. I don't think I have the funds to do both :)

because the can cope with the valve lift I have with this cam and rockers, they were rated to 8000rpm and they were cheap.

would you recommend other springs?

well they are not what I would use.

we used ISKY Racing valves.

back to the timing. I would (I will be on this car and did on the Metro) have mappable electronic ignition.

I've got an Aldon Amethyst. I must say it is a great bit of kit. Will be ordering a second one when the new batch (v4) comes in for my new build. Granted I use it for the curve for super charging.

what do you use this car for? daily driver, on occasion, track days?
The car is built for sprinting but it is mot'd so it's an occasional driver at the moment until get round to joining MAC. Curborough spirit course isn't far from me. I originally went for an amethyst to get the advance spot on for supercharged. There are 3 types available -na, tps or map sensor. Also mega easy to fit and the timing is spot on, no matter what people say about accuracy when still using a dizzy.

I know that mappable ignition will be more precise and probably give a better result but it wont be allowed under the historic regulations I race under unfortunately, unless I can proove that someone used it in the period. but would consider it for my road going metro.

what metro did you have? was it used for racing?
