Would like convert my centre speedo fuel gauge to vdo ohms range. Is it possible?

Yes.

But, in a way that's a little different to what you maybe thinking.

There's a couple of companies about who have 'gauge matchers' for just such swaps.

Spyider Design is one and CBS also have them.

I think we've had some topics on tweaking gauges with resistors, but likely to involve some compromising. An Arduino could do it easily with its Map and Constrain Commands.

"From 1965 on the classic Mini had a sending unit with a resistance range of about 270 Ohms = Empty to about 30 Ohms = full. " Coutesy of DKLawson, formely of this parish.

A quick google suggests VDO offer various options, this one is the closest. You could either have a "reserve" when it shows empty, or just  bend the float arm to "tune" it.

Do you know / understand that stuff?  I 'doff my hat to you mate if you do. I'm not too bad with electronics, but this programmable stuff leaves be standing like a total stone age tool.

According to Smiths, it's actually 33 ohms full and 240 ohms empty. Apparently it was to a 'recognised standard'

Even better,

I understand it can be as vague as you'd expect for Brit electrics of the error era. It'd be hard to end up with a fuel needle that's less accurate.

I'm very much monkey see - monkey do with electronics 'n programming, but even I can cut 'n paste bits of code off the interweb and click to send it down a usb cable. Quite often you can buy the hardware you need off of fleabay too.
