Cup Holder Hack

So I took the advice of a few posters and mounted the gaitor ring underneath. In order to have the tray not flex when fastened down, I made a second gaitor ring to use as a spacer using the original metal one as a template out of some 5mm thick plastic I had lying round the garage and then mounted it between the tray and the metal ring. Essentially this makes a 'tray/ spacer/ gaitor ring/ rubber gaitor/ carpet/ body shell' sandwich.
Some photos:
Painted the screw heads with some satin black for a neater finish also:
And Mini Cupholder 2.0 in all it's glory:
Cheers!

Very nice. Looks a lot neater. I take it that it's nice and strong?
Much neater! Yeah, with the 5mm spacer underneath, it allows you to fasten the screws nice and tight without distorting the shape. All parts of the 'sandwich' were glued together before fastening down too, so its lovely and stiff now!

I might need to have a go at this.
Make sure you post in here when you do, would be interested to see if you make any improvements on my 'design'!

They look pretty good! Can't help but think that knuckles would be getting pretty close when selecting 1st and 3rd gears!

It's not fun if you don't end up with blood drawn!

I've always wanted to see firstly, how these are fitted, secondly one actually in place and thirdly a picture of someone's hand on tne gear knob when in first or third. Also, how does it work with the heater? Does it effect airflow?

Hopefully the heater will keep the coffee warm

not secured yet but ill probable fit it with some black self tapping screws or make some fancy mount the back slides into and then have one screw at the front in the cupholder part and put some foam in there to cover it up and keep things tidy!
Cheers Marc!

Great effort! Looks really tidy!
It's maybe a little bit late now but could you have cut the hole a little closer to the back edge to give you an little extra storage space for bits and bobs? I wish they made one with the tray around 3 inches longer so i could utilise a bit more of the tray space for storage!
