Has anyone used something like this to extend their track rod ends?

don't work with Mini TREs. can be used with Rose joints.

get the longer triumph ones and also weld a wheel nut onto the end to give more thread.

Why won't they work on Mini steering rack?

They'll work on the rack but what are you going to screw the TRE onto?

TRE is a female thread you see... So these will work with a rose joint as that can be male thread as well as female.

I've responded back to your PM on this, but now I see you're in the US.

<EDIT: Before going down this path, if this is to resolve an issue on a Mini, I'd suggest that something maybe wrong and it would be wise to investigate that, as with stock parts, or at most, the Triumph Rod Ends, should resolve any tracking issues. >

See if you can track down an Australian Mini Steering Rack and also and Australian 1100 / 1300 Series Rack. These were similar, the Mini Rack basically being a 'manufactured' shorter version of the 1100 Rack. 'Borrow' the Rack Ends from the 1100 Rack and fit them to the Mini Rack. These are approx 3/4" longer. Many of the guys who have the late Aust Mokes need to do this mod. as there was a hotch-potch of parts fitted in production and tracking can't often be achieved.

NOTE that UK Racks are different. I do not know if the same will work with those parts and do so at your own risk on these.

What a dope I am.  In my search to solve an excessive toe in problem (even with the longer tie rod/track rod ends) I jumped on this item without giving any thought to the fact that track rod ends have female threads.  Sometimes I wonder about me.

We've all been there, sometimes you're too close to the problem to see the solution.

Jack

and for too much toe in you would not want to lengthen the arms either.

wind the TREs onto the rack more you need to shorten not lengthen as you say you have too much Toe in.

if you have too much Toe out then you need to lengthen the TREs.

Good pick-up Nick, I missed that detail.

One other aspect to check is that you have the rack centred before doing the tracking. Too far one side or the other and it'll run out of threads.

Nicklouse, of course you're right.  What in the world was I thinking?   If you pull the back of the wheel in (toward the middle of the car) the front of the wheel moves out (away from the center) and toe-in is reduced.  No wonder I've spent three years totally rebuilding this car.  Well at least I can now quit searching for extra long track rod ends.  LOL
