Hi All

After some advice for my upcomming engine project

i want to modify my standard 1275 mini engine but im not chasing BHP figures i want something with torque.

i want to build a engine that will accelerate out of corners really fast and be fun to drive.

ive had some advice about fitting a lightened clutch to aid acceleration.

what other engine mods will help

Thanks

Ant

as with anything the heart of the engine is the Cam followed by the head.

are you going to do anything with the engine?

or are we just talking bolt ons.

At the moment im just collecting parts for the build.

i feel if im going to change the cam i might as well just do a refurb on the engine.

and bolt ons might be a waste of time and money if the bottom end is not up to much good.

so what are you planning? bottom end will be fine as you are not talking about a high revving engine.

what cam are you thinking about?

what head?

keeping the same CC?

Im happy with 1275. once the bores are worn and needs a rebuild i will consider a larger cc.

at the moment im thinking

MED lightened Clutch Assy
MED 1.5.1 Roller Rockers

not sure on cam

and have sent turbo phill a email regarding a head.

the car is curently in MOT and need to check engine code.

i know its standard and its currently leaded. but previous owner said it was a Metro Engine but not sure if it was a MG Metro

If your changing the cam, the Swiftune SW5 is really good for torque :)

Don't go to light on the flywheel mines standard pre verto but balanced ìts fine. If it's a mg metro cam like mine you want a realy Good head mines giving 83 torque at 4800 happy the way it goes.if short on cash go for a head and leave the flywheel and rockers assuming it is mg metro cam

I know that a Diff change is not an engine mod, but can make a real difference to the way your car performs, might be worth fitting a hardened diff pin or a x-pin diff while you at it. Just a thought that's all :)

so it mostly depends what cam i have if it needs changing.

and a good head.

once engine is done i suppose its just lighten the car

A 3.44 diff is a good all rounder, might be worth checking if yours already has this, good with sw5, mg metro, kent 266 etc, these cams all give good torque and are robust

I think I'd go with one of these cams with 1.5 roller rockers and a 3.44 diff.
