I hope this is in the right section.

I was just wondering when did the Mk2 boot lid change from the Mk1?

I'm restoring a Mk2 and I need a boot lid.

I have been told a Mk1 would do as it's so hard to find a proper Mk2 boot lid.

My car was first registered in April '68 so might this have been originally been fitted with the boot from Mk1?
I believe there might have been a bit of overlap between the two models.

Thanks for any help

'Anatomy Of The Classic Mini' -start date of Dec '66 for the solid inner skin bootlid.

An open frame bootlid fitted 16 months late is unlikely.

Minispares & others do an early Mk3 lid (full inner skin same as the Mk2) http://www.minispare...px|Back to shop

& there was someone selling conversion panels to convert it to the Mk1/2 number plate recess (but i can't find it now!).

It is possible to remove the old bootlid skin & fit it to another frame but as i know from experience it's far from easy.

Thanks for all that information itsaminithing.

Yeah I've seen that you can get Mk1 and Mk3 lids but not Mk2 for some reason..

This link will work -http://www.theminifo...um#entry3481349

Looked on the Magnum site but the only closed boot lid they show pictures for are early MK3 (double skinned but incorrect number plate recess for a Mk2).

Well spotted! .

7 years production of the Mk1 with an open frame boot lid & 10 months with the closed frame, & they only list it under Mk1 (but not under Mk2).... wonder how many potential sales that's cost them?

If it is a reasonable fit and shape it could effect price of original ones, but good to see some new panels being made, I was lucky as had a mint original one in stock for my car, we need someone to tool up for upper side panel repairs now

Daz1968 you wouldn't happen to have another one in stock?

Just wondering if anyone has tried one of these boot lids from Magnum?

If so what do they think of them?

Well, we have VERY MANY observations about the lack of quality, fit and even thickness of most other Magnum panels on this forum. They should normally be your very last choice of supplier. It is just possible that they have got this one right, but I would not be too hopeful.

But you could be lucky. Or, can you persuade your supplier to take it back, undamaged, if it doesn't fit? They basically have to under consumer protection laws, but it is a lot more pleasant for all if you have their agreement in the beginning. And it may be that your car doesn't fit the boot lid, considering how bad production tolerances could be....

I sort get the impression that it's very much hit and miss whether you get a good quality part or pure rubbish!!

It's real pity m-machine don't make times like this especially since it's so rare to find good second hand ones.
