My MPi which is originally equipped with sports pack needs spacers both at the front and rear to improve the looks. The rear wheels have the 8 mm sports pack spacer and there's Hi-Los in the rear. When measuring there is 25 mm in the front and 23 mm in the rear until the wheels sticks out of the wheel arches.

My question is if it is possible to add such spacers (and change to longer studs) without having e.g. steering problems or other?

The short answer is NO! On the rear, sky's the limits I guess but the front will throw the suspensions geometry completely off. I believe it is all to do with the king pin inclination. Look it up for more info on that. The only way to counter that is to put on wider wheels with the correct inner and outer offset.

Ages ago, I went and did what you are talking about for my SPi on 12" with W&P arches. They were wider like Sportpack arches and the stock Rover 12's seemed too far in for me. I added .75" spacers on all corners and although the look was right, the steering was boarding on diabolical. It was extremely heavy and over bumps, it would dart this way and that. I would NOT recommend doing this for looks alone.

You would be better to go for 7 x 13 wheels with suitable offset to fill the arches but even this will increase bump steer and spoil the Minis handling.....however for some 'looks' are more important.

Fitting wider spacers just for 'looks' is never really a good idea.

Thanks for your answers. The handling of the car is to some extent already spoilt by the sports pack wheels; it's a big difference to a Mini with 10" or 12" wheels.

But since my car have the sports pack I want to try to "maximise the looks" without having to pay too much in negative handling effects.

I like the sports pack wheels, but have been thinking of getting 7x13 Revolution (with rivets). The sports pack wheels offset is 21 and the Revolution is 13. By using a calculator I got the following results. What do you think about the inner clearence will be 5 mm less? And will the handling be much worse than it already is with the sports pack wheels?

Just perfect with 19mm (3/4")  spacers for my eyes,

the front doesn't need any thing.

Yes it looks nice on your car.

So, I have the choice of getting 19mm (3/4") spacers and new studs for the rear, but leaving the front as it is, or change wheels to 7x13 with suitable offset. You Brivinci and mab01uk indicated that the offset must/should be the same as the current wheels. Anyone's got an idea if the differences in offset between my current wheels and Revolution 7x13 (see the results of the calculation 4 posts up) will give me any problems (major, minor?)?

Eric.sen, as I understand you have both the 8 mm spacer (sports pack) AND the 19 mm spacer, with 78 mm bolts? Is that correct?

No

I only have the new 19mm spacers and 78mm studs in the kit CW17

The genuine 8mm spacers are now on a paper tray !!
