Does it stil have the VIN stamped on the scuttle? Could you take a picture of it? (covering up most of the numbers obviously) Mine was replaced and am looking to put the correct number back, but don't know what the original looked like.

No need to cover any numbers, there is so much paint on it that you can't make them out anyway.

I shall obviously clean that back but for now, you can have a photo to show you where it should go

I had a little clean up

Looks a great project!
The pink thing could be worse, I sold a finished mint white City to a guy once who proceded to spray it pink 1 week later!

I always wonder why someone would paint their car pink. It just isn't a colour that suits any car... Good luck with the project Ben :) Going to take some time and read the other three threads this weekend :)

Nice to see you have another project on the go Ben, your threads are always well done and extremely informative. Doesn't look too bad to me, if you are changing a panel for a little bit of rust you might as well change it for a lot of rust as the work involved is exactly the same. I think I might be tempted to keep the registration though, as it is quite nice and has sorted a name for the car straight away!

Cheers Vinay. There is a Nissan Micra floating around near me that is the same colour as this is and it looks no better.

Thanks for taking the time to read through my threads. I hope you enjoy them

Work will be progressing with this soon but will be slow going. I have made the decision to allocate one day a week to this one to get the ball rolling or else it will just sit and sit and sit.

After some digging, I have a suspicion that this may* be the original reg or it was added very early on as there is no record anywhere of it having another registration number.

It would be unusual for DVLA to allocate this plate to a new car when registered though so i'm not overly sure. I don't know if you can buy a private number when buying a car new?

The previous owner says it's a private plate but has no idea of the original but he provided very little to back any of that up so it's a mystery.

Long and short is that it may well end up keeping this number

I've known people have a "private plate" that relates to the car from new, you can get the corresponding location dealer to register it, quite common with motorbikes especially on the older system A600 CBR for example.

That pink was actually a dealer option colour on the Micra!

I’ll be following the thread closely. I just acquired a 1997 MPi non-sport pack and plan on doing a full strip down and rebuild. I’ve just removed the rear subframe. It’s a mess. Not sure if it’s salvageable. Where the rear sub frames strengthened from 1996 onwards? Was this for all variants or just the sport pack with 13” wheels. How do I identify if it’s a stiffened version?

That's interesting.

I think this shade of pink looks horrendous on any car but each to their own.

Good stuff!

The subframes were only strengthened for 13" wheels I believe.

I'm not 100% certain on the differences but I was told that the sportspack frames were hard to get hold of. Not sure if that is still the case as the only sportspack car I have fitted a new frame to was supplied by the customer.

Actually, just looked and found one easily enough

http://www.minispare...HB100590.aspxIt says that they only fitted them to sportspack so yours should have the standard one

Sorry for the lack of updates on this car. I have been so busy that it's just sat in storage.

I have been chipping away at the stripping down of it over the past few weeks in my spare time and now I have something worthy of an update.

Anyway, Bonnet off and windscreen out

Then the airbox off and the wiring starts getting disconnected

Then out with the ECU, Alternator, radiator and expansion tank to allow me to disconnect more wiring

And then Inlet manifold and wiper motor out

Crusty..

on13t0z.jpg

Brake fluid has been leaking from the clutch master and has run down the bulkhead and toe board

That's the main engine loom out

lFLTTec.jpg

Coil pack and started out

P0AdfqG.jpg

Before the other looms can come out, I need to remove the dashboard

ktdyv9T.jpg

QexzqBf.jpg

And then start disconnecting the wiring from here

twNO4yc.jpg

A0hhEmI.jpg

And that's the main loom added to the pile

OvqfLq2.jpg

Before the rear loom can come out, I need to remove the rear lights and disconnect the wiring inside the boot

Kz9GnJy.jpg

And then disconnect the SRS systems

Ub5jsAH.jpg

And then that can come out and go in the pile

bl0CR8S.jpg

zyelXTz.jpg

And then the rest of the interior could be removed

Looking good, quick progress! Looks like a birds nest on the driver's side front suspension though  :ohno:  was it pulled out of a hedge?
