I've just received my new MED ST1 ultralight Verto fully assembled ( clutch/flywheel ) just need guidance on fitting as it's my first time .

Is it just a case of offering up to crank and fitting on lock tab and torque bolt and fit the thrust sleeve ?

just to add it's a 1275 cooper engine which has been rebuilt and ready for new clutch to go straight on .

Grinding paste on the nose of the crank and lap the crank to the flywheel ( can be skipped if desired ) , flywheel on crank, flywheel to crank locking washer, flywheel bolt in and torque, bend back tabs

Perhaps an edit, Cian, especially as it is OP's first flywheel fit. Ensure that the flywheel and the crankshaft nose are COMPLETELY clean of all traces of grinding paste before final assembly.

And also inspect the condition of the taper on the crank very closely. If it's at all rough then would not use grinding paste.

If there is any cleaning up to do on the crank taper start with very fine flat file (8 inch smooth cut type), then oilstone. This is a lot easier if you have access to a lathe so you can spin it up. Surprisingly a mini crank does fit into a Myford 7...

There should be a stepped washer and a c-clip.

The keyway on end of crank looks messy, you need the keyed washer to be a tight fit otherwise it may work loose.

That keyway looks beat to ****! It will need cleaning up. as said your missing the washer and C clip for the primary gear. The flywheel bolt should have a slotted washer that fits into the end of the crank, it needs to be a good sliding fit.

just to add it's a 1275 cooper engine which has been rebuilt and ready for new clutch to go straight on .

You will need to sort the end of the crank properly for sure.

You also need a C washer and backing washer for the back of the flywheel, which holds the primary gear in place.

Another problem its looks like you will have is the primary gear end float, as you have not got the C washer and backing plate.

Who put it together?

The end float on the primary gear is important and needs to be set ideally before the engine goes on the gearbox, its not as easy afterwards, if it had been built correctly the C washer and backing washer should be there.

Have you a haynes manual? that will help.

You don't have to lap the flywheel on, but in persuit of perfection it is advisable, use a fine grinding paste, clean it off completely and then wash it with brake cleaner so its spotless.

But first that crank tail needs carefully dressing with a fine file and you need the slotted washer for the end to make sure it fits correctly.

You should also be aware that the flywheel and slotted washer only fit one way as the slots are offset from the centre.

The end float on the primary gear is a subject on its own, there will be a topic on here some where. Don't just shove the washers on and assume it will be OK.

Take your time and get it right or it could be a disaster.

Thanks for all your help , one last issue which I have came across today is that fitting the bell housing with a new release bearing for the clutch and the whole rotary assembly won't turn but will if I take the bell housing off or loosen the bolts off ?

you have some bolts that are too long and are contacting the flywheel assy. clutch bracket or engine mount are first places to look at.
