thanks... i hope so! I havnt got anything better to be doing atm !!
So did a bit of the door, fitted a new door skin as i wasnt happy with the other one
although it wasnt that bad, i had to add some bits to it and take some off too!
the snot stuff is that cold frost stuff, ive not sued it before, and to be fair it seemed to do a good job
I rippled the front of the door skin trying to get it to shrink down a bit, itll straighten and ill have to put a little filler into it..
i started then looking at bits of bodywork, rear pillars as ive replaced the roof, a double check with the ruller shows they arnt quite straight but not far off
that was a bit of a pull with a slide hammer. So tomorrow ill try and start on the filler. big job really as the car has had a lot of work. Only around the outside of the bootlid, and a small part of the B pillar is original!

so been doing a little more...
ive found a few of these on the car, i need to sort out, i think ill fill them and epoxy over it .
I had started on the rear pillar, and had left it in primer
its hard to tell but i did do a bit more to it
the join you can still see some high spots so i took a hammer to it also...
I had dented the roof when the car was upside down, some how i had pushed the car into the front subframe, and dented the roof quite badly
I knocked as much as i could out, and then started the filler
It as left in high build primer tonight
I have no idea if this will look good or not, it felt ok, but itll need more work. Im not good at bodywork yet, so im still learning
had to fill the quarter due to putting too much heat into it i think when i welded it
also started on the front post
im trying to get one side done, and then turn the car around and do the other... inside then,

so the roof wasnt as good as i thought, so i had another go at it today.
when the roof got dinted, what i didnt reolise at the time, a dent pushes the steal one way, then when you take the force away, it dosnt just stay there dented, it comes back out a bit, so you have a low spot where the dent is, "and all" around the steal comes up, it has memory of the impact. So you need to sort that out too. So with a lot of messing about today, ive got it something like, and hopefully itll look ok tomorrow.

so the final attempt of the roof came good.
I prepped and primed the engine bay in 2k epoxy
a little more primer on the quarter
on the wing too
I had repaired the post too a little and primed that too
also started to put some filler on the door, few bends from putting the skin on and there was a mystery dent in the middle.
more tomorrow hoefully

at my level body work is taking ages, and its not perfect. Maybe part of being good at it is to know when to stop and know what you will see and wont see.
Door is in primer now. I knocked my valve spring compressor off the shelf when moving the door and scratched it down the centre !
did some prep work inside of the car, and its not in primer.
still got a long way to go!

It may seem like a long time but you'll spend longer looking at it when it's painted and your still not happy
Your doing an amazing job, stick at it

thankyou mate, it is taking a lot more time that i ever thought!
So did a bit more today, ive decided to do something a little different with the car than the normal. Maybe a little controversial, but ive decided to put the lip back on the bonnet and make it look like what the car actually is, that being a 1986 mini, not a mk1.
When i was younger i didnt like the grey grills , but now, i really like them. This car also will NOT have mk1 back lights. Its even going to have reversing lights and side repeaters lol...[ not having a go at anyone in particular!]
I had do to a fair bit of repairing to the bonnet also, not rot, but at some point from me trying out the white paint i had, to here, the bonnet had a large scrape along it, and a lot of overspray. So sorted that out and got it into primer
Getting better at rubbing down filler now, but still learning.
While the bonnet was drying i had a feel of the quarter again, still not 100% happy with it so i put more filler in it. Just again, its not rotten, there is no rot in the car now, the filler is cosmetic, and talking to a few people, secretly, their cars have filler just the same in them. My mate has a RS2000 that goes to rallies and wins best car every time, its got filler in the rear quarters etc, just like i bet every mk2 has lol
So..
was doing the cross member too, it had a little press type mark in it, so i filled that too...
So, looking at it, inside nearly done, just really the front panel to prime and sort out, rear panel, and n/s. After that is done, ill sort the roof out, atm its good its not prepped as i can put stuff on the home made roof rack. Maybe the last thing i paint on the car!
Its scarey, its maybe a week or so off paint!

As long as the filler isn't 3 cms thick, then I don't see a problem using it, it is used to get rid of imperfections. putting on layers of primer and flattening it back is basically filler, only very thin.

is not that thick, just dont want it to be there ! But it now looks fine.
I had primed part of the inside yesterday, so i prepped the front and primed that, then put some stonechip on seams etc
and the quarter now looks like this
Its still a little wet in the pic, thats why it looks patchy.
Looking inside of the car again, down the pillars, where its all been apart there is a few marks. so i filled those too
I put the door back on and turned the car around
now onto the back end,

not much of an update, finished a few bits off in the boot, and put some sealer on some bits
here is another pic of filler in the quarter panel, ive put it in rubbed it off, in again, etc etc etc
put a little bit of filler on the pillar too inside, didnt need it really but just smoothed it out a little
its getting there!

On fire with this one buddy not long and you will be in paint

thanks its getting there !!!
so today i put some stone chip over the sealer to make sure the seams where sealed.
I checked it a bit later, and the stone chip had melted the sealer and it was all rippled. So i scraped the sealer off and will put some 2k epoxy on it all and then stone chip it again.
also did more filler
That basically got rubbed out again, and again, and its still not right. I then put some 2k high build on part of the car that where exposed.
Rear pillar looks good so far
every time i look at the car i see more and more to do. One day itll be done !!!

thanks, the doors should be a lot better than they are. The one ive just done was after a lot of time welding the car, the first one ill show you pics of now is no where near as good, it was early on in the project.
So i put some primer on the quarter as i managed to get it 90% there today, it feels really good, i was surprised, i changed the way i was looking at it, and got it there.
I had removed as much of the sealer from the boot that i could, and put some gravitax stone chip in there. I found doing light coats best, and then where i wanted it to seal joints, i went back with a brush, and the results where good!
I then epoxied it.
So this is the other door, ive put a lot of filler in it to start with, and im sure there wont be that much when its done, i just mixed up a bit much really . I had put the skin in the vice to fold the edge over, and had bent it in. I also think the skin on the other side that came not in primer was better quality.
I am trying to think ahead now, i dont know how to put the car together. I know that may sound daft, but i dont want to paint it until i have to so it dosnt get damaged. But also, it really needs painting before i put the subframes on properly. I dont know if its time to make a bit list for minisport, suspension cones, and any bits i need to finish the subframes so its rolling and not comming apart again. Need to make a plan, i think once its painted itll be back together in no time.
