I finally received my V5/logbook today.
My concern is that on the front page at the bottom were it says new at time of registration etc it also says that the car has been scrapped due to financial repair or words to that effect!
Does this effect the car at all. I bought it from a local classic car garage & mini specialist as a complete running car.

It has been a cat C or D write off.

It will affect value and the seller should've notified you

I just changed the address on our old golf V5 and that now also said scrapped.
Hasn't stopped it getting MOTd, taxed or insured the last 4 years.

I've just checked the exact wording is...
This vehicle has been salvaged because the estimated cost of commercial repair was more than the value of the vehicle.

It won't affect the car at all but it may affect people's perceptions of it. It depends on whether it's been a cat c or cat d write off. If you don't understand look them up.

As we all know most Mini's have had panelwork replaced,it depends how well the repair has been done on yours.

If you've bought it off a business they should have declared it at the time of sale.

That sounds like a cat d, people are more understanding of a cat d. It still doesn't get over they should told you at the time of purchase.

So a category D write off in all likelihood - you got it from a dealer and as such they are obliged to tell you. Given all minis are old  then if you're happy with it and got it at a decent price then although it will - I don't think it'll have significant effect on resale value.....but that doesn't get the dealer off the hook - trading standards first and then have a proper engineering inspection and report done from a reputable garage on the car (won't cost too much) - luckily mini's don't hide their faults well - this is equally for reversion to the dealer and your peace of mind that what you've got is safe.

If you don't want to return the car you may get a few quid back with the right pressure applied..... whatever you choose do it quick...

He did tell me it was one of his customers cars & it had an accident in the back & he repaired it for her. It had a new rear panel, valance & a repair section put into the boot floor.
I did ask him if it's been written off & he told me no. He seems like a nice honest guy & known in Norwich.
I did now it's been off the road since December & I bought it knowing it needed work/restoration

Makes no odds you asked him directly and got an incorrect answer... at the very least have it properly inspected - an MOT means precisely nothing ....

Even if you don't act on it - trading standards advice first....

I agree with all of the above it should have been made clear to you at the time of purchase as being classed as a write off will always have an affect on its resale value, however immaculate you end up making it. At the very least you should go back to him and try and get some money back.

I always thought it would state category D on the V5?

Your insurance company may or may not need to know this information too. Always best to check with them to be sure.

This is a Cat C write off so the most significant that allows the car to be kept on the road. As alluded to above you should have been told prior to sale. If will impact on its value and will need to be declared to your insurers.

I stand corrected it appears according to the following extract it's cat c:
If your car has been written off as a Category D case, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) will not be informed of the situation, and the car will not be subject to a Vehicle Information Check

The article went on to say:
Traders have to declare if a car has been written off as part of a sale, but private individuals do not

Cat C write off - they used to need a VIC check after it was given the Cat C title and hence the V5 was marked. Cat D did not need a VIC check and hence The V5 weren't marked.
