It basically comes down to a poor business model that most of these hosting companies started with. and they are no either realizing it or having a go at milking it.#

one thing that did kinda make me not surprised when I got the mail was an issue I had some time ago. new phone sync iCloud photos download buckets app and it wants to auto upload all the photos again! as the app has no idea that you have already uploaded anything as it is all in the hand set. same as if you reinstalled the app oh you have not uploaded anything lets put it all up there.

pointless waste of my account space and their server space.

like I said the links are dead so I may as well just remove all the images as I have them on iCloud and on the PC etc.

I use Google Photos. Unlimited free HD storage for every single picture i upload.

Editing tools on there are handy, and also if you have a smartphone is a no brainer. Upload to Google Photos when on wifi, and remove from phone, they'll always be there.

Plus you know google aren't going to charge any time soon.

Only problem is, TMF for some reason blocks the image extension on here. I use it fine on other forums.

So is the forum going to lose all the pictures hosted on photobucket?
That's going to wreck a lot of the sites history and help pages.

No-one will pay 399 for this and they must know it. Perhaps it's going bust and someone's after a quick buck before it all vanishes?

Maybe facebooks bought it up as they want to kill off forums? Who knows?

I use it to host pictures but I keep all my photos on my own drive which is kept separately to the computer.

Still an utter ball ache to redo all my threads. There's 1080 odd on the Midas thread alone.

What a job to redo the threads! I might do my resto thread because it's not too big, but it's still many hours.

For someone much more active like Sonikk4, it's just impossible. What a loss

Seen on Mk1 forum below......I see photos on some TMF threads here are already affected. This may be a further blow to forums as many historical and how to guides are linked to photobucket pictures and many of these may effectively now be useless. There will be a lot of empty spaces on forums as it will be impossible to reload all the pictures linked to other sites.

Until recently members of forums could include in their forum post a link to an image held on Photobucket's free service. I've just discovered that Photobucket have changed their policy and now require an annual payment if an image is linked to a third party site, such as the mk1-forum. The minimum charge is USD$400 p.a.

See here - http://photobucket.com/p500/

It appears Photobucket are using web-crawlers to search websites using linked images and over-writing the images with a warning sign. If you search through some old posts on here that have links to PB photos you'll see what I mean.

As a result of this change any and all images on this forum that are hosted on Photobucket will eventually become unviewable unless the user signs up to a paid plan. This would appear to have significant ramifications on the integrity and possibly usefulness of historical posts that include PB hosted images.
