How To Fit Door Mirror Fixing Nuts

Thanks for that, sorry for being a bit dim here though, but how do these "Well Nuts" work? Do they just hold/grip themselves in the appropriate sized hole whilst you screw the bolts into them?

 

yeah basically. they are a push fit into the hole, and at the end of the rubber there is a threaded insert. as you tighten up the screw it pulls the insert towards the rear of the hole. they are mainly used for fibreglass ( kit cars/caravans etc ) for mounting lamp assemblies, but they do work well for door mirrors, Ive used them

Cool thanks, sounds a lot easier than riv nuts & a make shift fitting tool made from bolts & washers!! Well nuts all seem to be metric though, so will need to work out the rough metric equivalent of the 3/16" UNF x 3/4" bolts on classic mini door mirrors? What would that be M5 x 18mm??

never liked the rubber well nuts for this type of application. vertical load sure, but this.
