Hi. I am getting back into the classic mini scene after a break of 25 years...

I just picked up a nice Morris 1967 Cooper S, but it has a 1380 MED engine installed currently, which doesn't really meet my taste for 'factory spec' authenticity :)

The original AEG312 thin flange block (+20) with its cross-drilled EN40B crankshaft were included, so I plan to build the engine back up as near as possible to the spec it would have been in 1967

But I cannot identify if the camshaft that came with the ending is the original AEG510 that should be in a cooper of this age (or if it is at least a close equivalent).

Can anyone possibly identify it from these photos?

The stamping on the duplex timing chain end says "16A73" but I get no obvious hits with google and forum searches etc.

Thanks.

No, it's the original peg drive.

Pin drive 3/8 inch wide lobes and single ring might be 997 Cooper.

The Cooper S 510 cam also has single ring but should have 1/2 inch lobes

Interesting, thanks. It does have 3/8" wide lobes.

Guess I need to get some calipers and measure the other components more accurately :)

Nice look car, sits up well. Is it still on Hydro?

Yeah, that's not an original Cam.

There were a few new 998 Cooper Cams floating about not long ago, AEA630. These are 1/2" Lobe, Pin Drive Oil Pump and the same Profile as the MKI Cooper S.

I bought up a few of these. If you look about (and might take some phone work), you might be lucky enough to find one.

Yes, still on hydro. The rear camber is way out, but I plan on replacing the minilite clones with original steels.

I know very little history for the car, but its obviously had a rollcage at some point (four bolt holes in each arch) so this could be some kind of customized race cam.

I see some AEG510 still available retail, I need many other parts including an AEG163 head to complete the authentic build (I literally have only crank, block, cam and timing gear), so this is very much a long term project.

Thanks for your interest.
