Hi all
Have been doing some research on the topic
And am still unsure whether to buy the poly versions of the bushes for the rear subframe

Also, the bushes I removed from the trunnions look a lot different to the ones for sale on minispares
Mine were H shaped
They were narrower in the middle of that makes sense
Whereas the ones I have seen have only had one larger side

Any help??

Rubber is best for the rear.

there are two types early and new.

early have two smaller and later has one larger. all are interchangeable.

So it doesn't matter which rubber ones I get
They will all fit ?

That's what I thought. But a lot of people say they aren't an upgrade at all

Since I've done mine I've noticed it's much tighter in the corners. For the price even if it dosent make a massive difference you can't go far wrong, it's all worth it. :)

Depends what you're after..... noisy & "tighter" then go poly a bit less harsh and quieter - rubber (they don't exactly need changing often and even then are a doddle to change) .... my preferred option is to solid mount the front sub & rubber the rear.....

It is actually the only place on a Mini where poly can seemingly be used properly. If they don't last there, where there is no rotation or angular movement, how utterly useless will poly be on, for example, front lower arms?

They are of course useless, even dangerous, on front subframe mounts and in particular tie rods.

Poly is much hyped, but like all materials, only useful in the correct places. It is NOT the answer to 99% of automotive suspension problems that the adverts seem to suggest.

The rear subframe mounting bushes have in the distant past been replaced by nylon or felt in by people with access to a lathe. But you will have fun fitting them if the dimensions of the shell and subframe are not exact! Downside is noise transmission.

The later cars, with the rubber mounted front subframe, best done away with, have larger reunions at the front of the rear subframe to accommodate the larger bushes. Simply fit a pair of old style reunions and original rubber bushes and all will be well. The difference between rubber in old style bushes and poly or even solid (nylon/delrin) is insignificant as regards handling, but the later large bushes are somewhat too squidgy (highly technical term!).
