Im rebuilding my rear subframe at the moment and I'm getting conflicting information around the right way to fit the split pin and clevis pin for the rear handbrake quadrants.

Is the clevis pin supposed to be dropped through from the top with the split pin and washer on bottom (as per Minispares parts drawing)

Or pushed through from the bottom with the split pin and washer on top???

Also the top hat bush that goes on the front trunnion, I've come to the conclusion it has to be fitted with the larger diameter end facing outwards? I.E. pressed up against the end with the 2 little holes on it.

Any help would be great. Thanks 👍🏻

Handbrake clevis pin goes thru from the top on dry suspensions.

The Rover manual shows the trunnion top hat bush with the narrow end pointing outwards and this was how mine was when I stripped it down

The rear brake cable quadrant spit pin and washer were on the top of the radius arm as per the photos above

I fit mine as per the picture above (clevis pin slides in from the bottom). That way when you have to remove it in future - and you will! - you don't have to remove the whole arm to get it out.

Yep, insert from the underside and save yourself some grief in the future.

I am wondering if using an R clip instead of a split pin might inspire you to take it apart once a year for cleaning and greasing? What do you think?

Yep, an R clip work well and that's what I did with mine. Despite a thorough greasing when assembled one quadrant locked up a while ago. Took 10 minutes to remove and re-grease.

Sorry to hijack this post but I too have rebuilt my radius arms and have a question regarding which way round the quadrant goes. If you look at the quadrant one arc is longer than the other measuring from the lock pin on the handbrake cable. So should the longer arc be on the cable going to the drum or the cable going to the centre of the car.

Many thanks
Dave

Longer Arc towards the Drum.

When fitted the other - incorrect - way, the arc will foul on the casting for the knuckle joint.

As pointed out by Moke Spider, if you put the quadrants on the wrong way the rear brakes give really weak handbrake = MOT fail.

I had this problem a couple of years back, took me a while to work out what was wrong...
