I'am waiting for another gauge to test weather mine is faulty, the cut down spring is the one that came with the ball and was cut down so that it was the same length as the bullet spring as i was advised to do on the forum.

Ok well I tested the pressure with a known working gauge today and it reads exactly the same as the one fitted in the car, so I thought i'd check the bullet and it seams to be stuck what is this doing and how do I get it out?

Good idea! If that doesn't work, pop down to B&Q and look for other types of expandable fixing devices such as Rawlbolts or certain plasterboard anchors. Just different variations of the same sort of idea.

Or, if you have a taper tap that fits, screw it in and pull. An Eezi-Out may also work, but take great care not to break it.
