There seems to be an obsession with some to change/modify a proven system just so they can go... "I've got coil springs" or "I've got rear disc brakes" !!!
Leave it alone. it dont need fixing because it aint broke !!!

Coilovers Is what I was talking about yes not cone replacements to the spring type.

I do thank everyone for their input and am planning to sell these current coil overs and but some new rubber cones.

Now do I get standard ones or minispares red dot ones? to go with the gas shocks

Personally, I'd go with minispares standard cones for pure road use - some suggest buying them and leaving them to sit for a while to further 'cure' before fitting..

I did this with my set of standard cones - they all seem to be settling evenly and the ride is amazing in comparison - if I'd knew this is what cones were capable of I'd have got rid of the old ones much earlier!

The back end of a Mini is very light, so putting people or luggage in it makes a bigger difference. Coilovers are really intended for completion cars that have been made even lighter (junking large chunks of the rear suspension helps in doing that) and don't have to also cope with carrying a couple of your mates an a boot full of camping kit. The momentary load on the damper mountings will be substantial with either set up.

Issigonis sat the Moggy 1000 on torsion bars. The limited space for suspension travel will have been a large part of looking for an alternative for the Mini.

Standard Rubber Cones down the back nearly always.

When he was developing the mini he also said that he made the morris minor the way he did because he didn't know any better at the time. His move towards rubber suspension was also heavily influenced by alex moulton, who he was very close to at the time, and was a further development of the work he had done when working for Alvis (the car company not the singer/actor)
