I’ve been going round in circles trying to find the answer to this and not really getting anywhere. Seeing as I’ve had little interest in the rot free shell, and I’ve been putting this off for fear of the V5 police. If I was to cut it up for sections and dispose of the rest, how do I go about disposing of the v5? I can’t obviously declare it as scrap myself anymore and can’t sell it, as it’s technically not mine to sell.  But I no longer want to be responsible for a car that no longer exists, or at least not a whole car anymore.

I had this issue a while back and I just sent DVLA the V5C with a letter explaining that I had scrapped the car myself and included some pictures of the cut up bare shell. I received a letter from them a few weeks later stating that the car was recorded as permanently scrapped.

The only other issue is the shell isn't that same colour as on the v5 as i never got road to changing it, as i never got it back on the road. So I'll probably have to update the colour change on the v5, wait a while and then declare it as scrapped.

If i wanted it to go for peanuts, I'd have left it out side on the drive for the scrap men to take it. I've put a lot of time money and effort into the project and I'm not prepared to just give it away. If people don't like that I've had to strip it for parts to get anywhere near half of what I've spent back, so be it.

Hold on there you are talking about cutting it up and scrapping it so you will get peanuts, agree a good rot free shell with logbook should go for a few hundred

One day way in the future you may be glad of that V5 yourself to build from a new BMH shell.......I would just SORN it in your name and file it away. Either way you will then have no regrets in years to come when such Mini projects are much harder to find and get easily registered for the road or motorsport.

Declare it as scrap.  If you really can't keep the shell then I would just do that.  Scrap it for repair sections and send the V5 off.

Sell the shell with the V5 on ebay/gumtree or similar.
If you believe that this is the correct V5 for this shell regardless of the colour change and/or you were sold it in good faith then you have nothing to worry about.

Oh just read it again, Have you already cut up the shell?

Yes I did say about cutting it up. But I'd be chopping it up for sections to sell or use myself, with the leftovers scrapped.

I know this is the correct v5 for this shell, I've only had it getting on for 10 years.
But there comes a time to call it quits. It was never roadworthy when I got it, 10 years later and a lot of work it still wasn't and the last 5 it's just been sat doing nothing.
Plus I need the space and money for other projects.

And I haven't cut the shell up yet, I was just seeing if I'd run into future problems trying to register a car that no longer existed as a car anymore as scrapped.

Sell it together with the V5 and keep another mini on the road.

PM me what you want for it as my 16 year old lad is nagging about a project
