All going well  with rebuild - see http://www.theminifo...-retro-rebuild/

However, have a 2 part exhaust clamp (manifold to pipe) and even with some sealant it leaks at this joint.

Any good solutions please??

Have made a ring of exhaust putty then squashed it up with clamp and still I hear a blow and some gas leakage.

It is out of reach and my knuckles are starting to bleed !

Thanks

If you are using the cast clamp, they have a top and bottom and can be a little tricky to pick which is which. The bigger opening goes around the manifold. I used to tac weld the bolts in to these to save on the skin.

Assuming the flange is good, check that it does line up at the right angle with the manifold. Check too the condition of the other exhaust hangers, if these aren't good, then it will leak.

After putting the putty on the pipe, I used to hold the pipe up in place with a jack until I had the clamp done up.

<Edit: Oh, and while I had the manifold off, I'd run the cast flange on the wire wheel to make sure it was clean. >

Assuming it the standard cast manifold and flanged down pipe. What I've tended to do is smear both mating surfaces with sealant, jack up the down pipe from under the car forcing the two together. Fit and tighten up the clamp, and then fit/ tighten the downpipe steady strap to the bracket on the dif. It's also important that the top and bottom engine steady bushes are in good condition and aren't allowing the engine to rock, as that will also cause the exhaust join to leak.
