I spoke to Swiftune yesterday to enquire about these and was told that it's still being tested. They could not commit to exact dates other than to say 'soon'. I was also told that while the final price is TBA one should budget ~£6K excluding drop/input gears, FD and differential.

Hi,
I seem to remember someone suggested picking up the phone and asking swiftune earlier in this thread?
Cheers

It will be such a limited market that it may well not be financially viable.
The only real application would be for motor-sport, and for motor-sport a sequential gearbox may well not meet the regulations for historic racing/rallying. In most historic categories the engine and gearbox must use the originals and only certain parts may be changed such as cam profile, carb size (not carb type), final drive ratio (for optional ratios), etc. Things like overhead cam or gear box conversions are not usually allowed.
Who on here will be willing to pay, maybe, £6500 just to change gear a few tenths of a second faster whilst adding no value or other improvement to their classic car?

Have you ever noticed that the "Freedom of the press" is the freedom to get it wrong? AND THEY DO ! Almost anything that you know about, that gets reported, has inaccuracies.
Take the extract above as an example.
It describes the gearbox as " Five speed sequential gearbox ", but look at the lay-shaft, it is no different from a 60's BMC special tuning straight cut lay-shaft with all four gears cut from one piece of steel.
The extract goes on to report that "This prototype is obviously a dog-box".
This is not a 5 speed sequential gear-box, it is a 5 speed straight cut H action dog-box !
What we are not told is how the selectors are connected to the gear stick / paddle / buttons, and it may be, that the gear-shift or linkage converts a sequential action to an H action.
An example is the "Bremmer gear shifter"

Apart from that I think KAD's 5 speed dog box is also a 1:1 on 5th not just Collotti. The JKD boxes were overdrive on fifth as well I think.
Even so it's still a thing of beauty.
There's a guy in our local club building a sequential 6 speed dog box in a Mini housing. The thread is in Dutch but for those so inclined they can enjoy the pretty pictures https://www.miniseve...hp?f=39&t=56095

There seem to be at least two different gearboxes in the photos.

There was s bit of discussion about it on the Turbo Minis forum years ago. http://www.turbomini...p=vt&tid=363670
Steve Harris was also developing a sequential box with Quaife over ten years ago. They were built into automatic gearbox cases but I’ve only ever seen two of them.

Ive built a 6 speed sequential for my own car, and I'm now working on a sequential shifter to work with a standard box. I have the design all sorted, I'm just waiting for some bits to arrive so I can start machining the bits up for it and test it.

It seems that the Quaife - Swiftune has a 5th gear overdrive.
Gear ratios:
1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th
2.153 1.500 1.200 1.000 0.880

Funnily enough the reason I built a sequential box originally was because I couldn't work out a way to convert a standard box internally, now I have thought "outside the box" I have figured it out! What I learned from doing the other box has helped massively though.
It's a few months off yet, as ive got some other bits to do to the car, but I'll will have some videos up as soon as ai have something worth showing.
