As a rule mechanical work is fairly cheap and easy to put right compared with bodywork so i would be concentrating on that first of all.  A blown headgasket is not the end of the world as long as thats all it is and no further issues.

I cant really say how much it is worth but i would think a standard un messed with car will be worth more than a modified example.

It's all about the body condition.  A head gasket replacement is cheap and easy so I wouldn't worry about that at all.

A non-runner with a nice, original shell with good paint could make £1500 easily on ebay...  you'll have other recommissioning work to do, but if the car's a 'good un', then it's well worth having.  Sadly the days of Minis with mechanical issues for £50 are long gone!

The Italian job is a limited edition but don't let this bump the price up. Its worth no more or less than any other mini.
Its all about the condition.

Thanks all for your responses welding is no issue but definitly dont want a rotten one. Just a few repairs would be nice. Its more the value as its an italian job mini. How many were made ? Ill keep posted with pics wednesday hopefully.

A think there would be a small premium over something like my Mayfair of similar age if it has all the Italian Job bits if both cars were in the same condition, I see loads of LE cars listed on eBay as something like "Wow L@@K super rare Italian job mini" then when you look at it it has bright orange paint, deseamed, bucket seats, metro engine, 13" wheels, badly fitted sportspack arches etc etc etc etc and I think 'where are all the Italian Job bits then?', Lol.

1750 Italian job minis were made, 1000 for the UK and 750 for Italy. my book does not say how the colours were split.

to claim a premium on an LE over a mayfair or city it would have to be very close to factory spec for me. many are not. but some of them are and are very nice... if they are in good condition.

But then opinion comes in. the italian job had a very nice interior but in my opinion the outside was a let down. black bumpers and rather strange bonnet stripes and looking nothing like the cars from the film.

there is a very low mileage 100% standard mini advantage on ebay at the moment. i really don't know why but I do like the advantage. if I had the money i really would snap it up. its all about personal taste i guess.

In years to come some of the limited edition Minis may have become rare enough in numbers that a car in 100% original condition with all the correct and difficult to find trim will probably sell at a premium price compared to standard spec Minis like the Mayfair and City of the same era. So as long as you don't get too carried away on price paid it could be a good long term investment and in the meantime you can enjoy owning something a bit special from the Minis long history.

I'd agree with the comment above. Perhaps in time it'll become rarer and more desirable but at this moment in time it's not really much different to many other mini editions. There's quite a lot of 'only 1000' or 'only 1750' mini variants out there so it sort of loses it's exclusivity when you can say it about most minis!

I never understood why they made it nothing like anything to do with the film or that they made the green one. Lol.

How hard would it have been to make some proper fake leather strap decals and put them in the right place and make a spot bar with the three lamps on even if it wasn't quite right and just had three of the normal lights fitted to Coopers at the time, red white and blue only and with silver wheels, I wasn't expecting replica external hinge bodies to be made or 10" wheels but they could have done better IMO.

That said the passage of time has done them a favour and a totally mint original car would get some attention, anything other than totally correct would be a waste of time for me though as far as a resto is concerned with one, if not just grab the nearest solid mini and go for it.
