Hi;

What type of tubing should I use for a vacuum gauge? Would windscreen washer bottle piping be ok or does it need to be better?

Thanks

That will be ok if small enough diameter. Too large and it would collapse under vacuum. Easy to check. The hard black stuff sometimes used on the vacuum advance pipe to the distributor is also ok if it fits. Depends on what diameter you need.

If in doubt, try some of the Kit Car parts suppliers who are likely to have proper vacuum hose, but you usually need that only for the brake servo.

Silicone hose should be fine

Use the line for oil pressure gauges from MiniSpares. It is the plasic line and has all the fittings on it too for your gauge,

Most turbo diesel cars have loads of small bore vacuum tubing running round the engine bay so should be readily available from a decent auto factor, or car breaker if you're stuck. I have used washer hose in the distant past but it's probably not ideal.

My vacuum gauge has a push-fit for hose not screw-on (Smiths Classic). Small bore but thickish wall hose.

I use 3mm silicone vacuum hose from eBay.. pretty thick walled and seems to cope ok under the vacuum created. However, in my SPi the gauge would go mental at tickover so I cut up a cigarette filter and shoved it down the vacuum line at the gauge end and now it's steady at any throttle position.
