First of all, a Merry Christmas to everybody.

Apologies for opening an old thread but I felt that the title fits perfectly.

A few days ago I received my order from MiniSport containing four Mambas 6x10.

I always thought that the Mambas utilized the same wheel nuts like the Revolutions but by opening the JBW labelled boxes I had to learn that there are 60° taper nuts included.

But as you can see on the photos the nuts reach far too less out of the centre to have sufficient grip for the fastening nut which has a diameter of 24 mm and is slimline, the smallest I could find.

The hole is only 21 mm so that won't work physically alone. I thought of buying a hex rod with 19mm AF and make longer nuts on my lathe but the best steel I could find is C45 which has a max. tensile strengh of around 500 MPa (N/mm²).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Not according to their website.

but I would not expect the seller to know that.

Wrong nuts. Look at the photos on jbw website, the repro mambas use an inverted style nut

Yes, I know now but the Minisport chaps should have known it before me! https://www.minispar...ds-mamba-wheels

by the way. Why change the fastening to a worse one when the former worked perfectly well? For me this is an example of bad engineering. Perhaps sleeve-type nuts are more expensive to manufacture than taper nuts? Do not accept this.

Thank you all for enlightening me!

There is one word there that answers your question. I would also suggest the wheel makers had to find a way to change the original design?  Yes the sleve nuts are not cheep to produce.

Again me, hope I do not bother you.

In my vast selection of this and that I found some 14mm AF 3/8-24 wheel nuts and a long sleeve nut goes over it without problem.

I would like to know your opinions and if you think the nuts are up to the job.

Hi, MiniSport has just sent the missing Allen key wheel nuts for the Mambas.

The Allen AF is 12mm with an Adapter to fasten them with 17 AND 19mm ordinary nuts.
