OK, I think I'm going to change the oil pump. I've got an oil leak on the flywheel/clutch housing so It would kill two birds with one stone. The question is, is it practical to do this without taking the engine out? Fundamentally, I've just put a new subframe et al in and the thought of taking it all out again is destroying my will to live.
Can it be done properly with the engine in situ?

It's do-able but easier with the engine removed (imo). You don't need to remove the subframe to remove the engine..

To me it's easier to take the car off the subframe than the engine out. I've got a garage with 3.6m height and an electric winch that will lift the car off the subframe. It's got a brake servo and those inner cv joints are a pain compared to the old UJs.

Fair enough, I took mine out the top :)

Sorry guys, to be clearer the oil leak is the gasket between the drop gear housing and the cylinder block/gearbox casing.
Sounds like it's coming out again!

Pull it, use the winch but keep the brakes etc connected to the pedal, all you need to do is remove the bolts which mount the servo to swing it to the side
