painting your radiator shroud would improve your engine bay no end or are you going for the patinated look? :)

I'll be painting it this time round.

The reason I didn't do it before is due to the bolts being stuck and needing to get the engine back in. As the bolts are out now (snapped), there's no excuse not to paint it.

I don't know if you've seen these but in my opinion they do improve the look of an airbox - I've got two - one fell off and I replaced it because thought I'd lost it only to find the original one caught on the exhaust behind the engine!

Certainly makes it look finished. Where do you get them from?

Just followed your build great work I am rebuilding a 92 Mayfair having not stripped it down I cannot quite see on your photos does the biggest part of the wiring loom go through the top corner of the large bulkhead hole and the remainder carries along the engine bay then through a smaller bulkhead hole am I correct in this assumption thanks

Yeah the part with the big grommet on it goes through the blanking plate in the bulk head. The rear loom goes through the smaller hole in the bulk head and joins into the main loom towards the right hand side of the air box.

You can see the wiring loom from the inside of the bulk head in the post from the 27th April.

Today, I worked on seeing the timing up and managed to get it set to 109° once I figured out what I was doing.

Then tightened the cam sprocket nut to 90nm. At which point it all went wrong. New duplex cam sprocket grounded out on the thrust plate bolts. Not sure what to do now, so waiting on advice/guidance from forum members or mini spares!

To de-stress (I was getting quite frustrated with the timing!), decided to start cleaning up the radiator shroud, timing cover, and pulley. Gave them all a good shot blasting and have now put them in a bath of deox-c to get at the areas I couldn't reach with the shot blaster.

The solution to the issue with the cam was apparently to sand down the head of the bolt slightly to give the cam enough clearance.

After this was done, the cam was re-assembled and timed up.

Nice work on the Mini.

The Parade was a great experience.

I am sitting in the back of the Black Mini Designer one behind you in the other column. My daughter at the wheel as it is her pride and joy.

We all admired you for your effort to make it to the parade and I gather from all the Whatsapp messages a save journey home to Hull was achieved.

How lucky we were with the weather, shame for the expensive Aston Martins at the back of the parade rain started just before they moved down the course. I think a couple kept their tops down for a bit.

Unfortunately we could not make it to the Ace Cafe.

Fingers crossed we both get picked for next year.

If you read this Spider the Mokes were near the start of the parade with one lucky guy driving Miss UK and some other beauty queens being driven in other Mokes.

We both thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely do it again if we can.

Hearing the crowd shouting Yorkshire and up the Tigers came as a surprise at first, until we remembered the flags. 😂

We never went to the ace cafe either as thought it best to head home at that point.

The mini was absolutely fine there and back, though we did get caught in some torrential rain on the way back.

I finally got round to putting on the centre caps this weekend. They don't quite fit, its difficult to find them for 58mm holes, so I wrapped some electrical tape around them to take up the slack. Hopefully they won't fall out.

I ended up 3d printing my center caps, then made up a mini badge on brushed 0.5mm aluminum..

The current engine is using about a pint of oil every 140ish miles, so I bought another engine to rebuild ready to drop in.

Started stripping it down. Bores 2 and 3 are a bit rusty.

At the moment, I've left it there with diesel down the bores to try and free it up. Next step is to fill the bore with deox-c, to see if that does any better.

Puller is on order from minispares to pull the clutch off, then I should be able to finish stripping it down and start sending bits off to the machine shop.
