I've been beavering away putting the finishing touches to the prep.
Namely, removing as much of the old sealer as I can from everywhere, Straightening out the passenger side footwell, finishing off small repairs and mostly trying to remove all of the sand from the blasting.
There were also some snapped screws to remove, old rivet ends to drill out and the battery tray to straighten
I must have removed enough sand to fill a small sandpit and ill tell you, it really is a thankless task. Just when you think you have got it all, you rotate the shell and then a load more drifts out.
Anyway, here is a picture of the finalised door fit
And the same was done the other side but I can't find the picture.
The grey primer is just there to make everything the same colour which makes evening things out easier.
Then of course, the etch primer that was applied after blasting needs to be keyed up so that was done before turning the shell on it's side to blow out any remaining debris.
And then it was into the booth ready for primer
I didn't have enough time to get the priming done today so ill do that Monday.
Once it's primed, I shall turn it upside down so that the sealing and stone chipping can be done and then I can flat the primer ready for top coat.
Cheers
Ben

what a good way to start the weekend with an update on the midget
GSM eventually came back with an £85 delivery charge to get the seats to the island. I think I'll get them delivered to the house for free and then bring them down myself so I can see the car before it is finished

Primer time!
No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get every single last grain of sand out of everywhere and I kept washing it down with panel wipe and wiping over with a tak rag and still some remained so I took the belt and braces approach inside the shell and applied a barrier coat to seal everything in.
And then on with 3 coats of high build
All ready for a flat and then time for seam sealer.
Cheers

Hi Ben, Lovin' the yellow barrier coat!
Looking great in primer
I haven't got the seats sorted out yet, I think I'll have to get them couriered down as I can't see me getting down to the island anytime soon and i don't want to hold things up. It looks like the seats need a universal frame so will probably need holes drilling in the floor
Would you be able to get the hood frame powder coated as I'd like to get a local, to my family home, and next the the fish and chip shop I frequented as a "youf", car interior company to do the hood
Thanks
Darren

No problem. I can make some enquiries about the frame.
I was going to leave the soft top off the car altogether as you were having it redone yourself but would you like the frame bolting in or take it separately?
I have blanked out the whole of August in the diary so there will be no other work coming in to distract me from the MG.
I hope to have it pretty much finished by the end of August.
As for the seat frames, If extra holes need drilling in the floor and the car is already painted, Ill drill them and then do some small local blow in's around the new holes which will blend in perfectly and prevent any rusting in the future.
Cheers

Yeah, no worries.
The hard top will be fitted so no problem there

The whole shell has now been flatted by hand and is really getting close to some colour now.
Next up is going to be the sealing up. I shall use a combination of seam sealing and brush sealing to emulate the factory look but with modern materials that will work better.
The actual paint job will have to be done in stages.
First, ill seal, stonechip and paint the underside and in the wheel boxes, then ill paint the engine bay and interior, then i shall fit the front wings and front panel before painting the outside of the shell in one.
The doors, bonnet and bootlid will be done separately at the end.
Cheers

Oh yes indeed.
It's one of those jobs that you just need to get on with without thinking too much about how much there is still left to do.
Still, it's done now and I have even made a start on the brush sealing this morning.
Cheers

looking good - I've quite fancied building a midget with a Monza (Sebring type) body for some time. One day maybe.
