what pullers are you using. I tried with a generic cheap ebay special and it bent that(was in my tool box). Then I bought a mini puller and with my 2ft bar and pop, straight off.

I had an old mini one - which broke - and I also had one from ebay  - a Draper one.

I assume that you have removed the flywheel key, I didn't once and wondered why it was not moving until a friend pointed out my mistake.

yes - thanks - but I did check a couple of times because I couldn't believe it wasn't moving

Well done I told you it wouldn't let you down, did it come off with a bang or a whimper?

Funny I didn't think it was going work - I tightened it all up and it didn't move - so I hit the end a few times, re-tightened it as much as I could, but it still didn't move - so I was about to give up and went for a cuppa to consider my options.

About 1/2 hour later, I went back into the garage and give it another go - hit it again and re-tightened it, and it just fell off - I actually thought that I had pulled the threads out of the puller or something because there was not bang or noise at all - the bar I was using just turned and become all loose.

That's a shame, Its nice when they go with a bang and hit your knee or hand or some other body part, Its much more satisfying. :D

When you reassemble the flywheel back on the crank lap it in first before fitting key and bolt. This is to ensure a good fit so that the flywheel won't fret on the taper and friction weld on - it happens. We there there any witness marks on the crank?
To lap the flywheel use fine valve grinding paste. Put a smear on the crank nose. Push the flywheel on and rotate backwards and forwards.
After a few actions move round 90 degrees and repeat rotations. Repeat move. And again etc.
Clean the crank nose and see if it is a dull grey colour all round. If not repeat with fresh paste.
When you have a dull grey colour all round both components carefully clean the crank and the flywheel taper with thinners or carb cleaner to remove all traces of the grinding paste.
Now reassemble with the key and bolt. Do the bolt up B****y tight.
Should have no problem in the future then.
