First things first. The MK2 finished 1970.

It could be a late registered car.

You don't need a number plate to race.

But post it up and someone may know it if it rallied of competed with the reg showing.

Is it definitely Mk2 with external door hinges and sliding windows as most K reg are Mk3 with internal hinges and winding windows?

DVLA shows FUE 637K:-

  • Date of first registration March 1972
  • Untaxed since 1st March 1979

More photos needed.
It might have been brought in from abroad as back then the number issued was a current one.
The build date will come from the VIN number and a heritage trace.
Looks interesting.

Under hard cornering petrol would leak from the vent pipe.

Lifting the vent up high stops that

There was a factory modification about 1965 to the way the vent pipe was routed on twin tanks.
