And here is were I found out that my aldon amethyst is not working properly. As a test I set it to 12 degrees advance and the strobe was showing anything between 11 and 20 degrees. Stuart says these mappable ingnition set ups rarely work and advised a basic vacuum dizzy with elec ignition. Got it ordered yesterday so should arrive Monday.

Bit of a waste of a day really and a waste of my free RR set up by Stuart

I need to find a RR nearer to me. It just costs too much, with time off work, renting a trailer, petrol etc.

have you considered https://www.northamptonmotorsport.com ? they're not too far
not used them myself, but they seem to have had some nice cars on their RR; Nick Masons 250 GTO among them

Does it just bit hold steady at all? How did you lock the mechanism in the dizzy, could that be the issue?

you lock the dizzy by putting strong springs in that don't budge. to be honest I just bought one from aldon already done as the motor I used was from an SPI.Bad news on the Amethyst. I've been toying with buying one for months for my supercharged 998. Glad I haven't now.

I would normally use Aldon as they are only 15 miles away, but I used Vmax because of the charger. When I say nearer I mean round the cornerhave you considered https://www.northamptonmotorsport.com ? they're not too far

Agree, I can't imagine the problem is the amethyst as much as what's triggering it - which would also be there for any dizzy.
If it's an SPI motor it will have had a better timing sensor originally.

The Bikini style top and the 'Glove Box' are great mate.

Quite and for the set up you have, this would be ideal.
The shift in timing is somewhat 'odd'. I can't see it being the Black Box, it would be in the Pick-up arrangement - that is, if it;s not something silly.
I also question the fitting of a distributor, with a Vacuum Advance on a Boosted Application.

I've now got the new dizzy to try, £65 so not too bad. Stuart a vmax swears by the vacuum dizzy. Its what he has on his car. He also said the best engine management is an emerald (on his injected kit).
We'll soon see. I've just upgraded my old gunson strobe to a digital Innova one from Oz that displays the RPM too (should make it more of a one man operation), spoke to the DHL driver via my 'ring security camera' and he told there is an additional £27 import charge to pay...bummer!
I was pondering the vacuum on a boosted application situation. It must just advance on idle to 1500rpm and then no more 'assisted' advance on boost, just mechanical advance.
I'll just plug in the new dizzy and see. I wont rip the amethyst just yet.
