re the fuel cap i would have left it on and made sure there was a metal sheet over it. hot rocks will go through just about anything.

Sorry misdescibed. Put the fuel cap over the 2 sheets of plastic and then taped over the lot. Have left it on as I will tack a couple of welds on for the rear support bars. I'll put a piece of metal over the top.?

Worked on the cage today.Attached File  20181103_142214_resized.jpg   23.37K   1 downloads softened up the corners of the plates a bit. They were a bit sharp looking.

First drill didn't have enough umph. Had to use my work Milwaukee, which makes all other drills feel like toys.

Even that found it hard work. Used the angle grinder in the end!

Clamped the front hoop to the windscreen frame to keep it inline

The welding blanket worked a treat.

Typical. Welds get better at the end of the job.

And finally, my first ever designed and made roll cage build. As it not for any competion use or any thing like that, I'll be tidying up the welds.

Here's side view of the cage. I'm really pleased how its turned out.

Attached File  20181110_112339_resized.jpg   103.89K   8 downloads

now need to sort a hood

Attached File  20181110_112241_resized.jpg   101.33K   8 downloads

Got a sample but it seems a bit thin compared to the existing black one.

Attached File  20181110_122447_resized.jpg   30.61K   2 downloads

Can't seem to find a car hood canvass supplier. was thinking of making the hood myself. How hard can it be? bit of cloth, sewing machine and thread!

Attached File  20181110_112411_resized.jpg   94.09K   3 downloads

I'm having to do all of this - the cage, hood etc so it can live outside under this new purchase (its a bit high so will have to modify it)

I really need to work on the mini

Cage looks great. A bit of advice with the Trike Home is to leave the ventilation flaps open all the time, it does cut down with condensation.

Cheers. I might try and made something to hold the vents open without rolling them up so rain cant get in.

The mesh seems to keep the rain out OK even when it's windy.

just a point about the cage bolts above your head. it is always goob practice to have the heads on the inside and the pointy ends that stick out of the nuts being away from your head. or to trim the bolts down so as to be just about flush which ever wy you fit them so as to not cut the cover.

it does look like you will be a long way from then but it is amasing how much the body and the belts streach in a crash.

Perhaps a minimal roof like you can get for a MX5?

Love this build, could be worth posting a link or pics to this thread?

http://forum.retro-r...repurposed-pics

Starts off owner-jeep related, but halfway through the first page someone asks what the UK equivalent would be...

Was thinking of a bikini top type of thing with a centre section at the rear with a window the zips out making it into a bikini (if that makes sense)
