I minor technicality you shouldn't care about:

The buckle on the strap's the wrong way round, the cutout goes with the free end so you can pinch the webbing through it as a quick release.

Might save your life if you ever have to dig your way through a snow drift in blizzard conditions and the strap's frozen  :P (Fair do's, that scenario doesn't go with the colour scheme).

It wouldn't go that way. The strap is folded under and stitched and I have left the fold on the inside. If that makes sense.

Nice build. I like the desert/military look on it!

Had an expansion tank made up by concept racing. Needed a bit of trimming down on the brackets. Pleased with the fit. Unfortunately after a couple of laps round the block. I noticed a noise under load I wasn't used to hearing. Looks like the sodding head gasket has gone. Noticed mayo on the oil cap the other day. After wiping clean it came back after 1 mile. Looks like oil has sprayed out the side of cylinder 4 end. Gasket ordered in readiness prior to having a look.Attached File  20180928_150817_resized.jpg   66.73K   2 downloadsAttached File  20180928_150827_resized.jpg   65.59K   0 downloadsAttached File  20180928_150847_resized.jpg   63.65K   0 downloadsAttached File  20180928_150903_resized.jpg   49.98K   0 downloads
I wouldn't mind so much but I have only done 50 miles in it

mayo on the cap means little. what does it look like on the dipstick?

colder weather more water vapour to make mayo.

I'll check the dip stick later. The mayo was there when the weather was hot too. Also I think the pressure is high in the coolant. Wasn't too hot but it wet itself. I tried to show in the pictures but oil had sprayed out the side (looks like its come from gasket)over my breather pipes.

Checked dip stick and it's fine. Nice clean, clear oil. Suppose it could be the rocker cover. Stuart G warned me the silicone ones are crap. I'll whack a cork one on and see

pressure can not be too high in the coolant you have a pressure cap on the system that reduces the pressure if it gets too high.

nothing wrong with the silicon ones they just take a bit to make sure they are seated correctly and you donĀ“t over tighten them as they will just spread out of the way. really should be a harder mix.

and mayo in the cap is just any water that has condensed in the engine being evaporated out. happens as the weather gets colder and when cars have hardly been used. more visible with open breathers as it does not get sucked out and burnt.

Upon further inspection unfortunately it is the gasket. Water leaking out the side. Never seen that before.

I've seen it before. I changed a head gasket on a 998 back in the 90s and used a rubbish cheap gasket. When we fired it up it started leaking water straight away. Replaced it with a Payen gasket and had no further issues. It could be a gasket sealing issue rather than something worse.

I thought vines HG had gone when it hadn't, it turned out i had burnt out an exhaust valve. Still not sure why it was leaking between head and block

Head off. Despite the Surfaces bring sh#tted up underneath they are fine, no putting. Surprised how black The surfaces are though. The rings on the gasket are intact. Some the composite had broken away and there's a crease underneath. Judt waiting on the new gasket to arrive now. I wonder what the situation with guarantees for gaskets. Surely it shouldn't fail like that?

That looks like it may have been a packaging issue, and by that I mean that something heavy may have been placed on top of it at some point at a funny angle, causing what looks like some sort of crush damage. Easy to miss something like that.

You will never get any guarantees with gaskets from the manufacturer unless it's unused. Too many variables otherwise.

FFS! Spent this afternoon putting the new hg in. Torque every thing up. Fill with water. Haven't even started it up and it's leaking water out of the same spot. I'm loosing the will to live.Attached File  20181006_170416_resized(1).jpg   43.92K   1 downloadsAttached File  20181006_170408_resized(1).jpg   73.49K   0 downloads
