Judging by what people have said hear and other topics I decided to just take the dim dip fuse out. Sorted!

I popped to mini spares Midlands (David manners) bought a standard heater valve again and after a lap round the block it has started to leak. They are sending one to me but I have the mot on Thursday. I already have a dsn alloy take off but the hose won't reach. I do have an old inline spi type one but it sounds a bit crusty might give that a try with a spare bit of hose.

.... it sounds a bit crusty....

I know that feeling

Leave it to soak overnight in warm water & Vanish -it's great for removing embedded rust from rubber or plastic without damaging any metal parts.

I've put another head based heater valve back on for now.
MOT time tomorrow. I not expecting pass more an idea of what I need to fix. I'm a bit paranoid on the emissions side of things is there anywhere I can check the original age of the block. The number is now machined off following the rebore. The number on the log book is just numbers.

Today is a good day. Flew through the emissions. Lucky I took my log book which states what the immissions test should be for it. 3.5% CO is the limit, mine was 0.8%

we just made one up and stamped it on the block. you could do the same with a tag. it is only a means of IDing it and could be anything. EG HUBBAHUBBA01 (rules may have changed since it did this so check with someone).

I made up my own number and got the v5 changed back in may/june, was fine apart from taking ages to get it changed and then when i got it back they didn't change the engine capacity to 1293 to 998 >_<.

As above, I pre wrote a letter with what I had done to the car for the local garage I know so he could just check it and then copy it to his logo'd paper and sign it.
