Well looks like the tacho isn't compatible with electronic ignition, must be off a lotus or MG. I'm sure if I resell if on eBay the new owner will love a sand coloured bezel?. Think I'll respray it matt black. So off to minispares to donate £140 it is then.

Surely it's cheaper to get it converted then you don't need to shed out silly money and you can keep the bezel colour

Doesn't Spyida do a conversion module?

It's time really. Say if costs £70 -80 overall for the conversion, the gauge will have nearly cost as much as a new one with a warranty. Any money saved, off set against my time, it's just not worth it. Plus I don't want to wait x amount of time for the conversion to be done.

Finally got the engine bay wiring done. The tacho wiring was really hanging over me for some reason. So to be honest it's quite a relief to be getting a new one instead.Attached File  20180802_195859_resized.jpg   80.44K   2 downloadsAttached File  20180802_195916_resized.jpg   50.79K   2 downloads

Got back onto the dash wiring now. The starter button was the first thing. Had some spare white and red wire left over So, cut the white ingnition wire and the white/red starter. Ran 2 lengths of wire from the cut wires to where the starter button is on the dash. Spurred the one white/red off the white, crimped and heat shrink. Attached the other new white/red wire to the one cut, crimped and heat shrink. For the crimping I tend to use the yellow or blue insulated connectors and cut off insulation. Don"t know where to but non-insulated crimp connectors. Terminated the starter wire off the barrel. Then couple of spades at the switch end.Attached File  20180802_202706_resized.jpg   48.28K   0 downloadsAttached File  20180802_203022_resized.jpg   43.56K   1 downloadsAttached File  20180802_202812_resized.jpg   41.73K   1 downloadsAttached File  20180802_203526_resized.jpg   32.93K   1 downloadsAttached File  20180802_203642_resized.jpg   76.09K   0 downloadsAttached File  20180802_204429_resized.jpg   21.37K   0 downloadsAttached File  20180802_204608_resized.jpg   31.52K   0 downloadsAttached File  20180802_205158_resized.jpg   39.06K   0 downloadsAttached File  20180802_205208_resized.jpg   58.03K   0 downloads

Feeling fed up today. Got the wiring done. Fuel in. There were a few gremlins that got sorted. But turning the engine over to get oil pressure up I am getting no pressure showing!! Tested gauge and whilst it transpires it's not the most accurate (shows 50 psi at 70). It still moves when attached to pressurised air. I had fitted a ball and spring pressure relief and took great care fitting the turbo oil pump- making sure it was all clean, oiled the gasket and tightened up correctly. So a bit flummoxed at the moment. How may spins of the starter should it take to get pressure on a freshly built engine?

it can take a few. dont forget no plugs in and fuel and ignition off.

check each part of the line flows. do you have any parts in the routing that is not just the pipe and the block connector and gauge?

Did leave plugs in. Will try again without. Fuel and ignition was off. I did fill the pump with oil when building but not sure how long that would last in there. It's justca new goodridge hose from the 'T' adapter for the oil light and that's it.
When you say, "check each part of the line flows". Like what? Take oil filter off see if oil pumps out and fill it if necessary . Did notice a bit of oil on the ball end of the spring in the oil relief valve.

It can take an age. Some fill the pump with grease  instead of oil so it won't drain down. You can also try priming the pump  via the transfer pipe hole, turn the engine backwards to pull the oil in. Also fill the filter if you haven't already.

nope, the line to the gauge if there is anything blocking it you may have pressure but no reading another check is looking for oil at the rockers.

plugs out then the engine will spin faster and just squirt some oil through the banjo bolt fitting onto the pump.

Still no joy. Plug a out. There was no oil at all in filter! Filled it. Wasn't sure if taking the relief valve out would enable oil to come out there, but it didn't. So how do you back fill the pump using the transfer pipe hole, as in what do you attach to the hole to get the oil in? Also turning the engine backwards, Jack up one side in top gear and rotate the wheel back?

And on the 7th day god created Nick and Ethel. Thank you so much chaps I was starting to dred the worse. About 70 psi so on this gauge that's about 90-100.

Here's a picture of me back filling / priming the pump just in case anyone does a search for it and needs to see where.
