Am i missing something here. How on earth do I get the bottom bush on the steering column i.e. getting it past the notch on the outer column. Fyi it had the felt bearing on before.Attached File  20180611_200057_resized.jpg   126.44K   5 downloads

cause that is where it sits on the inner shaft. In the picture it shows the lowest point it can go on the inner shaft as the shaft goes wider. I've looked other threads, looks like I have an old type. The plastic bottom bush seems to be for newer ones.

I’ve never had a problem, hence the question. As far as I know the plastic bush is supposed to fit all columns.

Does the wider part of the inner column not sit below the outer column once installed?

Just to illustrate I have taken a pick to show how far down it goes.

Got the exhaust hanger on and managed to get the exhaust higher up at the back. Looks much better now. Thanks for the suggestions.Attached File  20180613_212244_resized.jpg   54.56K   1 downloads

Looks right to me - the inner column protrudes from the outer further than what you have them aligned there. See the close up pic on MiniSpares link.

The ring you have on there isn’t needed now - that’s to retain the felt bush.

Perhaps I should rephrase it. This how far down it SHOULD go. The plastic bush needs to get past that indented ring.
Anyway It's a moot point now. I have given the felt a soak in oil and reused it.

the column outer that uses that plastic bush is shorter than the earlier ones that use the felt. also it has 2 rings while the older like yours only has one. i think the inner can be used in either outer but you need the correct Bush or felt for the outer.

There are others on their site, was just the first one I opened up.
They’re listed as ‘without pilot’

This may work?:
