ok so as i mucked up my last thread, i have decided to start a fresh.

anyway, the car is a 1990 mini checkmate (same care as flame red + racing green, just different colour). I bought it a few months ago as a project and got it for a great price, it wouldnt start. no spark. so i bought a new coil pack and tried again, nope, cleaned the points tried again and started straight up.

then i bought some basic items that i needed like ht leads, plugs, etc.

thats enough rambling for now so here are some pics from as it was when i bought it. hope you enjoy :)

yeah i know, it was left unlocked in a storage yard before i owned it and everything was stolen including the interior and then the cooper interior was put in. its a shame but i was planning on putting in some classic buckets antway

Also before you go running it for too long, the 2nd head stud on the left appears to have been snapped for whatever reason.

Its been a few months now since my last update, and a lot has happened.

The engine is now out, that was quite interesting to say the least, with no proper engine straps or crane i did have a forklift and some old ratchet straps lol.

Its now totally stripped apart from the wiring.

Here are some photos from a few months ago.

And the reason it has taken so long to strip is that i haven't been able to get access to the car for a few months until last week.

Another set back was the fact that the car needs a complete new floorpan. It doesn't look that bad in photos but when i bought the car i was told that it was a solid car with no rust, but the rusty floor has been panelled over (not even with a proper floorpan) to get it through an MOT i would guess. It turns out that the car has also been written off in the past as i was told by someone who knew the car before me.

So i made the decision to buy a new shell.

I am going to keep the old shell, but i just cant afford all the panels to get it back to the condition i want. So by the morning i had bought another shell.

Small catch though...

It was a 12hr round trip.

So i live in in Manchester and the shell was in Reading which is roughly 180 miles each way i think, and we were outside the mans house by 6:30am...We set off at 1:30am, but it was worth it in the end.

The new shell is a 1991 Mayfair which is solid apart from a few small bits, mainly scabby welding/patching from the previous owner, but absolutely nothing major.

So what's the law when re shelling a car with a second hand shell ?

Does the car retain it's papers, or does it retain the "new" shell papers ?
