Looking for some help to ensure type r is cooling correctly.  Car feels like it take a good 10 mins at idle for the thermostat to open and the cooling system start to flow.  The output hose from the head gets really hot and you can feel the water boiling as it leaves the head.  As the cooling system is so long in comparison to the original car I'm worried that the engine is overheating before the thermostat opens.  I've tested the stat and it opens ok in the 2 stages (pan on hob).  I've put the fan sender unit near the top hose and its switching on the fan before the stat is open. Anyone had similar issues?  Should i run without a thermostat?

Appreciate any help

Hi sounds like you may have air locked in system. is your header tank higher than the cylinder head? are there any kinks in hoses?

Would you like to do a basic sketch of how you've plumbed it all (maybe photos of it all) so we can have a look and see if something is not quite right......
