Evening all,

Totally new to the mini world, just ackwired a project from a friend.
It's essentially a shell and some sub frames with a few bits and pieces in boxes.

My question is what year/ spec is my mini?

VIN # Please don't publish your vin on a public forum...

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mini vin number guide is available on the web. Simple google search is all it takes

1985-90 Mk5 mini, 998cc carb engine, 12" wheels, front disc brakes, & probably a Mini City E or City (though it might be one of the numerous 'Limited Edition' cars of this era based on the base model). If there is any trim, or seats the colour/pattern will help narrow it down.

Also check out the Vin plate (drivers side inner wing if i remember correctly) i think they had the paint code on those years.

If you know the registration number..... https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

 

This will give you the day the car was registered (it might not have been registered till some time after it was built so this might not give you which model it was).

What colour are the seats? If they're original the colour will tell you what model it was.

Modern cars including later Rover Mini's have a visible VIN nimber looking through the windscreen on the top of the dash........

no reg was given just the vin. And like I said on midst cars on the road today they are easy to see.

What can someone do with a VIN number?

I guess people worry about someone applying for the log book/V5.......DVLA will issue the document to the applicant if no reply from listed owner within 2 weeks. Some valuable stored off road classic cars like Mk1 Cooper S have lost their V5 and reg number by this happening in the past.

Yep letters sent out to last registered address. Not really a problem if you have the car correctly registered. A pain if you have a pile of V5s.......

In the state in Australia I live in you can do an online registration check. It gives you the last 4 digits of the car/vin number which is all you need as the Cooper S here was never more than 4 digits!

Like the MPI sat on my drive -I had completely about forgotten that!!

I still like the concept of them trying to read my Vin Plate whilst i'm driving.

Sorry Nick, yes I was implying cloning or mixing and matching VIN on rung vehicles.
The forum can be searched by google without logging in or being a member, so generally I try to get people to avoid sharing anything including VIN, mobile numbers emails etc.
