That is your average chrysler engine found in all current Binis. There was one on ebay not long ago and the block itself isnt really that dissimilar from an A-Series.

The problem is all the C**p that you can see surrounding it. Quite how much difference there is I dont know, but I'd say you need to loook along thel ines of 8v Vauxhall engine - that sort of dimension.

A look on TritecMotors - the manufacturer of the Bini Engines gives this:

Layout
4 cylinders in line, 16 Valves

Valvetrain Type, Drive & Layout
16 valves, SOHC, roller rockers with hydraulic tappets. Chain driven with hydraulic tensioner.

Cylinder Blocks - Material
Grey Cast Iron

Valve Diameter (mm)
30.23 Intake 23.26 Exhaust

Maximum torque (Nm @ rpm)
149 @ 4500

Maximum Power Output (kW @ rpm)
85 @ 6000

External dimensions Length x Width x Height (mm)
590 x 465 x 675

Weight of engine (kg)
104

a friend of mine broke a bini cooper s for spares and the sub frame was huge not to mention all the daft wiring for all the stupid extras.
TT motors are pretty easy to come by, I have a friend who does conversions using them in mk 1, 2 and 3 golfs and scirrocos. The engines need to have all the wiring clocks keys ecu etc in order for them to run. There are loads of part done conversions around with bits missing that will never run properly.

How much is 65Kw in bhp? The engine seems lighter than that of an A series!

Nah, the BINI has to be more powerful than that surely?

What is it, a 1.6? That would make it 50bhp per litre, which is frankly pretty rubbish!

sorry but for 100bhp - 120bhp for the cooper i'd rather have the 1.4 metty gti engine, around 105bhp, k-series reliability (u hope) and more power out of a smaller engine.
gets my vote over the BINI all day.

but then you could fit the cooper s engine and have around 200bhp which is more than enough for a mini, would be fun as well

whats the dimensions of a mini engine bay?

looking at the dimensions of the engine posted above it doesnt looka huge engine. it would be a fair bit of work but i reckon it could fit quite happily in a clubman engine bay

The problem is the stuff relating to the enigne that has to be there as well...ECU, Injection system, Water Cooling stuff, fueling systems, not to mention the plethora of electronic sensors and cable bundles that Bini's sneekily hid under large plastic shrouds in their engine bays.

All in all you'd probably need an area 3 times the sixe of the actual engine in total - 30% goes to the engine, 60% to the wires, sensors and stuff, and 10% space to actually put your arm/necessary tool in!

I wouldn't say Nev is particularly right, I'm guessing the fueling system (manifold and TB) have been taken into account in the size, as has the tubluar exhaust manifold? Not sure why injection system should pose such a problem and the wiring for my Vtec isn't much at all, and the ECU can be tucked into any old space! The rad could be a problem but there are various ways of getting round this.

I think the main problem will be the height. I bet that think would stick out the bonnet a fair wack!
