I found it very hard to split the lock nut from the tie rod as the "stake pin" was quite hard and wouldn't deform to allow the 2 parts to come apart, but I did note that there were a couple of stake pin holes around the lock nut in as it had been refurbished before. Do you happen to know the thread size on the end of the rack? as I want to make some extension pieces about an 1" long for my conversion the I'm building at the moment.

One detail I note that I missed was how to remove the upper pinion bearing - DOH!

I have the photos and will get that up.

There was about 110 photos for that 'how to'. The Workshop manual covers it over about 1-1/2 pages!

Yes, there is some similarities on these, however, our locally made Racks, were made by TRW (under licence) and they had even more similarities. Also, hence why I made the comment elsewhere that if you can do ball joints, you can do one of these.

I've had to resort to pipe wrenches occasionally. It feels like a real bodge to do that, but ??? what else to do on these. Sometimes you can drill on the staking just deep enough to 'remove' it and that will aid getting them undone.
