Has anyone heard any complaints about Spax shocks rattling? The owner pointed me to an Audi forum where a guy was complaining about shock noise, Spax sent him a new set and they also rattled, some other's said "they do that"....

So, do they "do that"?

Here's the thread he referred me to, the last entry is the one....  http://audisrs.com/a...t__t_10413.html

Again have you adjusted the settings?

Doing so would change the rattle if it is the valves.

And no mine never have done.

Nick, I tried to change the rears (where it seems the worst) and I think they're set all the way soft, but the knob was really stiff and I didn't want to force it, I did change the fronts a couple of notches and didn't hear a difference.

I can't drive the car right now as I found the steering wheel held on by a nut that was epoxied to the end of the steering shaft, and no threads left on the end of the shaft, so I have a new one on the way, once it's buttoned up again I can play with the shock settings and see if it makes any difference. The adjustment only seems to be on compression, not rebound.

Press the adjusters in that should loosen them up unless they have been fully backed off and James up.

Also see if you can get a sound recording so we can have a listen.

Our plan at this point - the owner has 5 new tires on the way, he'll pop by and pick up the wheels and have them mounted and balanced while I finish fixing all the different things that still need to be done (like replacing the steering inner shaft), then we'll take it up to school and put it up on the lift for another look over, on the way I'll try and get a good recording of the noise.....this won't probably happen till the weekend.

More as it happens......
