Just noticed Cooper World magazine has published a summary of the works carried out on the GT. :D :D

And so is a bit I sent in about a '61 997 Cooper I saw driving in France!

Finally completed the replacement of the door window rubbers and the installation of new Sundym tinted side windows, after a bit of a struggle with the window rubbers being to tight I replaced them with Pheonix Supply rubbers.

The next job is to change the battery as its over 7 years old and I dont want it to let me down when the colder weather arrives.

Another electrical gremlin was uncovered today, after washing the car I tried to start it, I had no ignition lights but the car cranked over normally but wouldn't start. I had replaced the ignition switch back in January so thought I would check all connections, this is what I found.

The connector plug had melted on one connection, the plug in question was fully connected so I can only think that the connector in the moulded plug was not making full contact, something I was unaware of as the car had been working perfectly.

That's not good. Fortunately it gave up at home and not out and about.

I was very lucky it happened at home and was able to re-termiate the damaged connection.

I took the Mini out for a run today for the 1st time after repairing the ignition cable, the erratic rev counter is now working correctly and the car is running even better than before.

Big thanks to Ben and Mill Road garage for sorting out a problem with my defective front hub and installing a new front bearing, great work as always.

Thanks Ben

I

I decided to re -terminate all the connections to the ignition switch plug and socket to avoid a repeat of the previous problem which was down to the main wiring loom ignition switch socket pins being worn/loose. I also re-routed the internal heater hoses, changed the thermostat to a 88 degree one and installed some fresh anti freeze.

I decided to replace the damaged dash rail cover with one I picked up from Bealieu last year, and while at it decided to upgrade the heater with a 2 speed unit form a later Mini. One reason for the heater upgrade was to have a neater heater hose arrangement both in the car and under the bonnet as the later heater has both pipes on the left hand side.

My final task before I take the mini travelling around the country is to fit new carpets which are on order with Optimise

I've just noticed in the last photo you have the indicators on the left hand side on the steering column, is this something you've changed or was it like this when you got it?

Mine are on the opposite side, still makes me laugh when I go to indicate and the wipers come on lol

I haven’t changed them, I assumed they were on the correct side?

I think they changed in around 84 to having indicators on left, wipers on right to bring it in line with Europe. A previous owner could well have changed then

My new mats turned up today.

The Mini is off to Bens in a weeks time to have new Optimise carpets and a roof aerial fitted ( I have tried numerous aerials that wouldn't require drilling but none have worked).

Once these works are carried out, that should be all works completed ??
