Thought I would show you my latest addition to the GT, I managed to find a mobility scooter that fits inside the mini as my wife needs to use one these days, but I thought it looked a bit plain so here is my modification (Orange wrap and GT badge) :D .

Replaced the exhaust that I fitted about 6 years ago because it had a small hole in the rear silencer and replaced it with a Minispares twin box RC40 system.

Took it for a little blast today and the exhaust sounds much sweeter than before, I also had an unexpected brake check when a learner driver pulled out in front of me when I was doing the legal speed limit ( 60MPH).

The Mini has travelled 500 miles over the last week including a visit to Ben for a catch up and driving on some lovely roads on the Isle of Wight, it has performed brilliantly and not missed a beat, its only indiscretion is that it has left its mark wherever it has been parked (a few drops of oil), the leak seems to be coming from the timing cover area, so I will be replacing the oil seal and gasket in the next week or so in the hope that is the source of the leak.

Update

I chickened out of attending to the oil leak and returned the Mini to Ben to further investigate the oil leak and to replace the timing cover gasket if required, it turns out that the main leak was from the distributor body. We were only on the island for a few days so decided that it was a job that I could do on my return. Ben kindly spoke to Bill Richards to confirm which would be the best distributor for the engine that he had rebuilt and the distributor ordered from minispares.

When I removed the distributor the drive spindle came out with the distributor and luckily didn't drop off before it was fully removed, the new distributor has now been installed and the car is running very nicely. I will keep a check to see if this has solved the oil leak.

I have also decided to replace the door glass and seals as when we were on the way to the IOW we had a small leak from the passenger window and on inspection I think it has seen better days

Interesting.  Have you thought of having your old distributor rebuilt?  New ones are likely to be of a lesser quality.  I've had two rebuilt by the Distributor Doctor, great service.

Thanks for the suggestion, however the dodgy distributor wasn't original and the new one should match the cam better.

I went for the Minispares C-27H7701 as this is suited to the EVO 001 cam fitted to my engine, car seems even smoother than before, and as yet no oil leaks.

I have an EVO 001 in mine, really pleased with the way it drives. I'm thinking of ditching the K&N cone filter in favour of the original air box though to quieten it down a little, getting old lol

I have the original filter case with a K&N filter element, but then I am old anyway :D

Just noticed Cooper World magazine has published a summary of the works carried out on the GT. :D :D
